Question:
What testing do they do just before you have your surgery, so I know what to expect.

The pre-admission testing consisted of bloodwork, ekg, chest xray and
venous doppler of the legs. Prior to that I had a gall bladder ultrasound,
stress test and echocardiogram, endoscopy and lung function test. My
doctor didn't want any surprises in the OR, I'm glad he wanted me to have
all of this done and it was pretty painless.

I have not had my surgery yet, but I have had the pre testing done. I had
to have blood work, Chest xray, ultrasound to check the liver and
gallbladder, an EKG and a Sleep study to see if i have sleep apnea.
It would aslo depend on your medical history as to what other test you may
need to have prior to surgery.
Where are you in your Journey?

My surgeon had me get an EKG, a pulmonary function test, labs,
psychological evaluation, appt with a dietician, PAP, and then of course
the pre-admission lab work right before surgery. I also had to lost 20 lbs.

I am going 100% through my insurance company.
1. Referral to an education program my medical group makes mandatory.
2. Had to wait 4 months to get into a 6-month education program. Meet twice
a month for 6 months.
3. My insurance company changed their eligiblity requirements and I had to
go through an addtional 6 month education/weekly coaching calls with a
dietian every week.
4. Referral to the surgeron upon completing/graduating both education
programs.
5. Met with surgeon and dietian.
6. Psycho-Social evaluation w/a shrink.
7. EDG (due to an existing coniditon I have, EE, like GERD, but all in my
esphogus).
8. 2/8 - another mandatory meeting with the surgeons dietian.
9. 2/9 - pre-op with my primary care physician. EKG, chest x-ray, blood
work and complete physical.
10. 2/12 - blood type and cross at the hospital.
11. 2/12 - another meeting with the surgeon.
12. 2 weeks before surgery (I started on 2/1) - a full liquid diet not to
consume more than 1,000 calories a day to lose weight prior to surgery.
So far, that's it for me. I know other people had to have more extensive
tests for existing conditions. It's ultimately up to your primary and the
surgeon - as far as I know everything I've done is routine and not out of
the ordinary. Nothing hurt. Not bad. It is what it is.....good luck with
your journey. Mine has just begun. Surgery scheduled for 2/15/07. Getting
excited!
