Question:
I want to have the surgery done, but I am concerned that I will lose too much weight.
Iam 6'1 and weigh approx.295-300 lbs. I would like to have the surgery but I m afraid I will look like a tall pole. Are there any tall women out there who have had the surgery and everything worked out fine? — cindy G. (posted on February 21, 2006)

I have had much the same concern. I had my surgery 14 months ago. I
started out at 440 lbs. My goal weight was 230 to which at the time I
thought they were crazy. I never thought I could lose that much. This
morning when I stepped on the scale, I weighed 196. My doctors assure me
that I am ok and that my lab work looks fine. I wouldn't worry about it as
long as you listen to your doctors and do what they tell you to do. Follow
the diet and take all of your vitamins and suppliments. You will do fine!!

I am also 6'1"- started out roughly 380 or a little more, and am down
to 173-175 since the end of march 2004. I have never thought of losing too
much weight, just what was necessary. I passed surgeons goal of 185, and
my own goal is 167- however I am still in 16's and want to be ion 10's, so
we shall see. Your body will know where it is the most comfortable. Good
luck- oh by the way, being this tall has always been great, and now I
really look my height! Its awesome. Cindi -219#

Cindy,
I am 5'11", I weighed 340 the day of surgery and now way 210. I
would still like to lose another 50 lbs, I am almost 11 months out and I
have no regrets, I figure my body is going to let me lose only what it's
supposed too. It will stop where ever it does. Good luck on your
journey.

~Hello Cindy
although i have'nt had my surgery yet (i am schedualed for 4/5/06) I
too...have the same concern and wanted you to know you are not the only one
who feels this way...i don't want to look too gangly or stickly either. I
am 6'1" 315 and hope to lose roughly 100-120 lbs @ the most. Afterall
at our height a sz. 16 is'nt fat at all in my eyes if we work hard to turn
the fat into lean muscle mass & plastics if need be, but a sz 10 is
going over the deep end. My surgeon has told me that your body will lose
what it needs to as long as you follow your post care diet and exercise.

I am 5'11" and my starting weight was 340 lbs. I had RNY on 08-31-2004
and i now weight 149 lbs., i look and feel good. My Dr. told me that i
would lose down smaller then i wanted and would then pick up about 10-15
lbs. and would level out at that point. I have gained 2 lbs. in the last 2
months, and am happy to see it. This is the type of pattern they are seeing
with their patients. Your body will know when to stop losing. Hopes this
helps!

Hello Cindy, My name is Tyshea Perkins. I am 5'11 and my starting wieght
was 315 day of surgery on 3/3/05. I am currently weighing about 170lbs. My
initial goal wieght was to just be able to shop in a regular size store. I
am now wearing a size 10 some 12's all depends on the style of clothing. I
feel wonderful at the size. I still want to at least get down to 150, but
if I dont that would be ok. I say what everyone else says your body will
stop you when it feels comfortable at a desired weight. I have some
plastics to take care of my excess skin in my butt, thigh, and stomach area
and I think once i do that that will put me where I want to be. But I say
dont worry your body will take you where you should be and if you want more
or less you have to work your tool to the way that you want it to work.
Check out my profile, i have pics and it is very detailed. Congrats, and
get ready for a long journey.

I am 5'9", I know I am not as tall as you, but my height does play
into my weight also. Right now I am at 212, but I was down to 165 at one
time, I was too thin, my thyroid medicine needed adjusted. I had a baby
and gained some weight back, so now I wanna get back down to around 170.
But its hard, cuz now i am doing it the old fashioned way. Here is the
linke to my obesityhelp profile, send me an email if you have any questions

All you have to do to stop losing is increase your caloric intake. When you
get to the weight you are happy with you can eat a maintenance level of
calories. Also I think that very few WLS patients actually become "too
skinny" most people lose between 65-80 % of excess weight. Good luck!
