First, know that I lived in El Paso del norte, but it's been over 20 years
ago. I also lived in Chihuahua (the state Juarez is in)for the first 7
years of my life. I love Mexico, but you should be aware that things have
changed a LOT. Juarez is a very dangerous place to be and people are
staying in their homes in fear. The drug cartels are killing many people
there, and in particular young women. Please be very careful and don't go
out at night for any reason. Beyond that, if you are going there, you will
need to bring pills to make the water drinkable, and be careful not to eat
vegetables washed in the local water. Eat at restaurants and you should be
safe. Bring a pillow, you will need it to hold against you when you cough.
I would recommend blistex or some other lip balm as your lips will be very
chapped before you are allowed to drink. Outside of that, they should give
you a recommended list of what you will need. Clothes should be obvious,
including a comfortable robe for you during your stay. Good luck and feel
free to add me as a friend if you'd like to keep in touch.

Hello, my name is Kathy and I to am scheduled to have surgery there at the
same hospital on 2-15-10 . I was wondering if you would contact me after
your trip there and let me know of your experiance there, I to am wondering
what its like there. I have spoke with my worker several times concerning
the criminal activity that is going on there and she has assured me that as
long as you stay at the hospital and your not out alone wondering the
streets you will be fine she has said they havent had any problems with any
of there clints . Wishing you best of luck

I just had Lap Band surgery on 12/29/09 in Juarez with Dr. Rodriquez. It
was great and I am doing very well. It is very scary to see all the
military when you go across the border. The hospital is about 30 minutes
in. It is very clean and has high security. I would not suggest you leave
the hospital. You may want to pack food and snacks and water, they do have
a fruit bar and snack bar, but my friend that went with me brought her own
food. Make sure to take a wash cloth, but they do supply towel. The staff
is great but some do not speak English. We got there around 10:00 am and
got all ready and then sat there until 7:00pm when they finally took me
down to surgery?? Never got an answer as to why or is that he just does
them that late. I highly recumbent it but do be careful. It will take about
3+ hours to get back across the border. Good luck and may you be bless with
much weight loss.
