At 17 days, I was allowed full liquids, which included pureed soups, cottage cheese, broth, sugar free popsicles, etc. You might want to give your doctor's office a call tomorrow and see if they can give you a list of what you are able to have at this point. That would be the safest course of action. Good luck!!! Hugs, Liz

Most surgeons and/or hospitals give patients a diet to follow for the first three months post surgery. Did you not get one? You can search the internet for "post surgery bariatric bypass diets" and you should be able to find several. Different doctors have different ideas about what you should and shouldn't have. Some allow things like oatmeal and grits and other who do not believe that you should be eating any carbs will not. Even though my doctor's diet didn't allow them I ate a pack of instant oatmeal with 1/3 cup powdered milk every morning. I also ate scrambled eggs. Mashed ripe bananas is another thing that some can eat within a couple of weeks. The important thing is to get in your required protein. I found fat-free refried beans with cheese added to be a lunch item that I tolerated well and is a good source of fiber and protein. You have to experiment but go slowly, and as others have said because you can eat a food today doesn't mean you'll be able to eat it tomorrow. Each day is different -- I would say this is especially true the first six months post surgery. Good luck. Bob

I am 28 days out and I am allowed puree foods but my doctor said add one at a time to see if it agrees with you.

I was still on clear liquids at 1.5 months. Then I went to thick liquids (split pea soup) etc. I wouldn't rush eating foods quite yet, your pouch is still very swollen and sore.. You really need to take it easy and baby it. Although these choices are not bad. Just be very careful. Try to stick with the liquids. You are probably having head hunger and I would just dip my finger or slurp a spoonful of whatever liquid was in my skillet. That really helped. Your stomach just had a major reconstruction. Take it easy.
