Question:
Trying to re-lose..tropical fruits ok??
I am actively trying to re-lose approximately 75lbs and just cant remember what I first ate after surgery 7 years ago. Can anyone give me some suggestions? I live in the Caribbean and all the local fruits are now in full swig..mangoes, guavas, coconuts etc..are these allowed? — caymanbabe (posted on June 5, 2008)

The fruits are great for your diet, but you are online allowed 1/2 cup at a
time. They are really high in natural sugars so the carbs are high. I could
only dream of living in the carribean. But I will settle with the northeast
:) Not as many hurricanes up here. Good Luck -Karen 10 weeks post op.

Fruits are a complex carb which is good and they have fiber and a ton of
vits and minerals...You'd be better off eating fruits than eating breads
and sugar. But you need to add high protein to to diet if you want to lose
and get in some good swimming of something on the beach...or on a bike!
OMIGOSH! I wanna come visit you...I'll bring the Protein powder! You can
make some of the most amazing protein smoothies with all that fruit...Make
some mango salsa for fish. Fish is a nice lean low fat protein...Pineapples
and chicken...Eggs and cheeses are so good with fresh fruit...I'm getting
really jealous...LOL Good luck!

Since everyone is on a plane to go visit you, I'm coming too! Fruit is
really high in sugar. I just bought a gerber plate, fork, spoon and knife
set. This is what I used when I started eating solids. If it can't fit on
the plate, I can't have it. The spoon and fork are extra small and I have
to definately pace myself. FRUSTRATING, yes but a silly way of using
self-discipline.

Thank you all for the suggestions..I especially like the small plate
idea..never thought of that..and I do add fruits to my shake..when I make
them..am so use to a normal CARIBBEAN way of eating again that I have to do
something drastic and regain the self disipline..I will foward these
suggestions to my two sisters who also had the RNY..one just as recent as
JAnuary and still trying to cope.I love this site..thank you all!!
BTW..Any one from DALLAS on here?? Am heading to DALLAS in July for a week

Go back to the basics... Protein first, veggies next, then fruit and other
carb foods. For fruit, look for low glycemic index fruits. I'm sure if
you search the net, you'll find a chart. You might want to try filling
with water about 15 minutes prior to eating... and remember no drinking
with meals or 30 minutes after. As for allowed or not... all things in
moderation.
