Question:
Going on purees one day early
I am supposed to go on pureed diet Tues night or Wed am. Do you think it will hurt if I start Mon evening? I just wanted my husband to be home with me in case things don't go well. — bikermama (posted on May 24, 2008)

My surgery was 5/20/08 and I would not have been able to go on it a day
early. My stomach was not ready for it. Even when I did go on it, I had a
lot of trouble getting the 3 oz. down.

I started my protein shakes and purees early. I was afraid, but I took it
slow. I started out with 1 ounce at a time and it was ok. What ever you
do, don't over do it. And, having the husband there is a good thing for
support.

It is so funny how different surgeons are!! I had surgery Thurs April 17th
& Monday morning, I was at home, eating scrambled eggs, mashed potatos,
etc. i was on clear liquids for 3 days following surgery only, then soft
(NOT pureed) foods, at one week check up, added chicken, etc. The KEY, is
to cut your food into pieces just as big as your pinkie fingernail or a tad
bigger & chew that piece 30-40 times. You will not have a problem, you
shouldn't need someone present the first time you eat, because in essence,
it is not the first time you've eaten!! It will be perfect, good luck!

I started my soft food diet a day early by accident ... I saw the surgeon
on Thursday (six days out) and he gave me the list ... But didn't tell me
not to start til the next day. So I went to the store and got the
groceries, and I ate! I did just fine - no problems at all. Of course it's
going to depend on the person, what the reaction is, but for me it was not
an issue.
