When I was 5 weeks out I was told it was okay to take capsules. I've been
doing so for about 3 weeks now and no problem.

It is not a problem with a capusle, as you can open it into apple sause and
take them or if you can swallow them, just take them slowly, one at a time.
The problem is time released meds. With RNY you can not take time
release, because it is in your big intestine (colen) before the take
effect.

Find out from your doctor, he knows best.

capsules and pills are usually not an issue after wls, but you have to wait
for a few months. Some people when they take capsules and pills, they go
right through them. You would see them in the toilet. If that happens,
see your doctor and you may need liquid meds. I take a large multi vitamin
with no problem and tylenol sized stuff with you problem. You probably can
too. Just take one or two at a time. Then wait for them to desolve. I
also take a bite of food or two before I take a pill most of the time.
Doesn't matter the type of food, just something to slow down the path of
the pill to give it more time to absorb. Take care. Patricia P.

I can take all medications now.
I think it depends on your swallowing ability. I still chew my vitamins.

I am 10 days post-op and they started me back on my meds the very next day.
I take two different capsules twice a day. I have no problem taking them
whole. Only one time did I feel like it was stuck in my pouch. Usually
they just slide down w/a little juice or water. My surgeon says there is
maybe a slight decrease in absorbtion but not much. If you feel like the
medication is not working anymore your Doc may need to adjust the dose.
Good Luck, Paula B.
