I am 61 and had the surgery on 12/10/07. I am doing fine. Can't tell you anything about the long term effects, etc. But, I've lost about 52 lbs. so far. I will probably have more loose skin than younger patients - but I expect that. My goal is 100 more lbs. Caroline

I am 57 and doing fine. No adjustment problems. Think more excess skin due to age...look like my mother!

At support group meetings, I see women over 60 who have had the surgery. No higher complication rate than younger people. I'm a guy who had it just under 60. I lost 1ost 140 pounds, no complications. I had to have an extra visit with a cardiologist for my surgeon. My surgeon had a "cut off age" of 60. He did those patients under 60, and referred older clients to Scripts in San Diego, who also has a contract to do RNY with my insurance company. DAVE

Wow, I thought I started "late" at 50. Guess I am WRONG!!! It's never to late to feel and LOOK younger!!!! I get lots of compliments now and most people only "guess" me to be in my late 30's or early 40's. I just celebrated one year out from surgery and I've lost over 100lbs, with no problems. Kinda fun to "start" life over again.......

Hi Ann, I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on Oct. 25, 2007. I was 60. I am doing great but I do think it took me longer to get my strength back after surgery. Also the first three days were rougher on me than on most I think. However, after those first few days it has been clear sailing. I love my sleeve! The VSG also has a forum if you are interested. Pat

I am not personally a lapband patient. Try www.divinetransformation.net. Cher is a lap-band patient herself and can probably help you. She also has a radio blogcast on Wednesdays where she covers a lot of information on the lap-band surgery. Hope I was a little help.

I'm just about 8 years out from distal RNY. I was 57 when I had it done...other than maybe losing a bit slower than the younger ones...I did get all the weight off...and kept it off. I lost 187 lbs...and the skin issues aren't any worse than some of the younger people I've observed in fact better than most. I never had plastics...I look good in my clothes...turn the lights out, out of them...lol! I'm still a size 10....but I also take care to do all my supplements and protein drinks. It's important to take care of your health. Regards~

I had my RNY surgery at 60 yrs, I had no problems, and was back at work in 2 weeks, I am a nurse and did not have any problems, a little sore at first, but did very good. I will be celebrating my 62nd birthday next month. I'm very happy with my decision to have the surgery and it fills great to be called skinny or to get told you are so tiny and that I look like a little girl in my nursing uniform. I was a diabetic, and was on large doses of insulin and multiple other meds. and I am no longer on insulin or diabetic medications. I lost 90 lbs and am at my ideal wt of 130. It has been a life changing decision to have the surgery and I feel that my quality of life has improved and I know I will be around longer for my husband, my children and my grandchildren. I didn't have any loose skin problems. I recommend it to all my friends and have a couple of friends who have already had the surgery with no problems. I have had no complications and this is one of the reasons my friends are encouraged to have their surgery. I always explain to people that all people are different and have different side effects. This is my first answer to any questions but I couldn't resist answering this questions because of the age question. There are alot of us out there. Hope this helps you.

Hi there I'm 65 and had my rny when I was 59 , the dr. said he was leary of doing surgery as I was his oldest patient . needless to say he said I did better than the younger ones' he had done , I had no real problems . I also got out of shower and looked in the mirror and said omg I looked just like my mom lol . I looked like a skinned RAT . My starting weight was 317 , I now weigh 109. I now worry about being too thin , eat everthing I shouldn't to try and gain weight . Dr. said I was within my limits for being small boned , also I'm 5'4" . lets' not talk about skin I look like a starved deprived elephant , and my hubby has more boobs than me lol .
