I have or had sleep apnea also, i was told by my surgeon that if i was
previously diagnosed and have a cpap machine there is no need for an
additional study, so we didnt do one and the insurance still approved.

I don't know if all Drs are alike but I did NOT need another sleep study
done, since I was already using a c-pap machine for sleep apnea.
Good luck

I don't think you should need another sleep study prior to surgery. But
after surgery and you lose (I've heard) 60lbs you will need one to tell you
that you no longer have sleep apnea.

Typically no; however, if one were to gain a significant amount of weight
since their last study or the person feels that the Cpap isnt helping thier
symptoms...you should consider an appt with your sleep specialist for
his/her advice. Ed Frost, RRT ISN Sleep Center of Bensalem
