Question:
Help with Sports Nutrition or Sports Nutrition Diet

Ok I really need some help. I'm in the Dallas area-I need a gastric bypass sports nutrition experienced nutritionist if such one exists. I've talked to cooper-they don't understand. Problem: I cannot seem to get enough to fuel my energy for races, consequently, I'm losing to people with less cardio ability which isn't fair after training so hard. Because of my pouch not being able to hold pre-race meal food in high quantities(pasta, potatoes, etc), I lose my energy and focus after about 1.25 hours of strenuous exercise. 2nd problem, my peers whom I race with and sometimes against-pop a "gu" pack which is concentrated glucose gel(2 oz.) which of course makes me sicker than a dog as they pedal past me. When I dilute it or dilute hammergel with water so I can tolerate the sugar, it still makes me light headed after about 15 minutes when sugar is gone and I need a carb immediately. Please tell me I didn't have the surgery and get so far, only to be limited to simple sports instead of competitive sports because of the pouch limitation. I'm not concerned about weight gain- I burn over 2,000 calories a week training. I just need good healthy fuel-that will last for 24-48 hours. The night before-most athletes eat starches, I can but very small-its too rich and makes me sick. I need a starchy alternative to potatoes and pasta. I eat it in 1/2 cup portions about 30 minutes apart x 3 times, so 1.5 cups, my peers are eating 3 to 4 cups of pasta!!! This is the only time I eat 30 minutes after just having eaten. This seems to help my race the next day-but still "bonking"(burning out mentally) about 1.25 hours into race, when I still have physical ability left, just out of energy. Any info would be great.    — snowchick (posted on January 8, 2006)

I'm not a nutritionist but I was wondering if instead of doing your carb loading the night before, could you do it the entire day before? Good luck to you!
