I guess I wonder what you mean by 'drinking'? I can only sip water and it
is my drink of choice! How much are you drinking? How long is it taking you
to drink it? From what I hear the fluids do just go straight through our
pouch for RNY folks. I doubt we could stretch our pouch from sipping water
as we do ahe to get in 64 ounces of water a day!

I'm 8 days post op and was just told that YOU CAN stretch
your pouch from ANY fluid. I feel like my pouch is stuck in my esophagus.
This is due from the swelling of my pouch from too much water today. Hurts
to sit too long. Standing and walking is better. Was told it would feel
better in a few days.

I was worried about the very same thing. I think we all worry about
stretching our pouch the first month. I called my dr. a number of times and
talked to his assistants. They told me you canNOT stretch your stomach on
liquids because they go right through the pouch...it doesn't sit there.

My surgeon also agrees that you cannot stretch your pouch with
liquids. He also says that it isn't easy to stretch your pouch.
You have to eat to the point of nausea, several times a day, for
several months to actually stretch your pouch. Most people who
regain the weight do it by by drinking sugary drinks and overeating
carbohydrates (starches & sugars). If a person drinks regular Pepsi
all day and grazes on sweets, they won't stretch their pouch....but...
they'll gain a lot of weight.
