My doctor allows 8 oz of skim milk a day and no more than that. We also are not supposed to drink our calories. I don't drink any milk and I'm also losing slowly. I think it's just the way it is for some of us.

I have actually heard that on a conventional diet milk should help you lose weight. Maybe you could go over all you are consuming with the dietician at your doctor's office and find out where you could be slipping up. Are you getting in your waters, and are you exercising? It could be many many reasons why your weight loss would slow down. Or it could just be a slow metabolism.

The milk should be skim milk or other fat free milk substitute. Good luck!

My doctor says milk is a good source of protein, but has us add 1/4 cup powdered non-fat milk to one cup of non-fat regular milk (calls this enriched milk) which gives you double the protein. Do this for any milk - when you use it in sugar free pudding, with soup, protein drinks, or just plain. And yes, we use it in our shakes. This is the best way to get protein in during first few months until we can eat more. Plus, we wants us to have one protein shake a day with the enriched milk for the rest of our lives as a meal replacement.

I too am losing slowly, but I do drink milk also. I have 1/2 scoop protein powder in the a.m. and one at night with 8 oz of skim milk. However, I was losing very slowly and told that your body will only absorb so much protein at a time...20-30 grams..so drinking something that is more is a waste. and also milk has 12 g of sugar per serving. This can hamper weight loss. Having said that...I was losing much slower until I upped my caloric intake. Once I did, I started losing faster. I am almost 4 months out (in 9 days)and I consume 2oz of food 3 x a day. I drink 2 protein shakes...at half powder..so about 18 g each. and the rest is water. I am down 66 pounds as of today. I hope this helps. hugs, Kim

Two glasses of skim milk are contributing over 22 grams of carbohydrate to your daily intake. When added to the standard levesl of carbohydrates you might be getting from your vitamins (there are a few grams in each vitamin), cheese (even trace amounts add up) and protein powder, you could be preventing your body from going into ketosis.

I drink fat free milk 5 times per day. I mix it with my protein powder because if I drink my protein powder with milk straight up with water I have diarrhea everytime. My doctor said the protein powder is to concentrate for me. I still in ketosis even with the milk. Everytime I dring any protien powder with water I end up dehyrated and have to have IV fluids. I still am losing alot of weight. I lost 70 lbs since July 2, 2008. My doctor says if the milk works for me to go for it....

I ment water with my protein powder gives me diarrhea that leads to dehyration. Sorry about that...

I was encouraged to drink milk. So I drank quite a bit. It has a lot of protein, and it also helps with getting the needed liquids in. Six years post-op., and I lost about 200lbs. I still drink a lot of milk. I love it!! Good luck!!
