Question:
I am having Lap Band 4-16-08, How long were you in hospital.

I know I will be released that same day, I know everyone is different, but what is the average length of stay. How many hours?    — dyates2948 (posted on April 13, 2008)

I had surgery last Monday, April 7, 2008 & was home by Tuesday, April 8, 2008. I would've been released early in the morning after my surgeon came to visit, but had to wait for my husband to pick me up. I was so surprised that they released me so early since I thought I was going to be held over due to my blood sugars - Type I diabetes, but my sugars were excellent, so they let me go home!

My surgery was on a Monday morning ( about 10:00) and I was released on Tuesday afternoon around 5PM. The Dr. wanted to check for any fever in the AM and do a barium xray to check the pouch in the PM. I was walking around by Monday afternoon, however. I'm 61, so I think he was particularly cautious with me....age is not your friend for surgeries! Flora, who had her third "fill" on Friday, and FINALLY feels some restriction!

I went in at 7 a.m. the day before and was held a little over 23 hours. It was outpatient, so it had to be less than 24 hours. That was the same with most of Dr. McEwen's patients. Good luck! You'll be just fine!

I had Lapband surgery on 3/19 and was released on 3/20 in the evening. But it was billed my insurance company as day surgery. I was there for more than 24 hrs though.

I too am having surgery on 4-16-08 LapBand. I am in at 6am for preop and 7:30 is my surgery time. They told me I could leave as soon as noon if I did not have any problems. My doctor does not have people stay over night unless they have problems or sleep apnea. I know every doctor is different. GOOD LUCK!!

I had my surgery 4/9/08 at 11:30 am and was home by 10:00am 4/10/08. Just had to wait until Dr. came in to release me, and nurse had to check my temp, pb, sugar, and finish the last of my second iv bottle.

My lapband is scheduled for 4-28-08. My doctor says I will be released on 4-29-08, as long as I do not have any problems.

I had my surgery at 7:00 a.m. and was released at noon the same day.

I had my surgery on 3/19/08. I had it at 12:30p. I did not need the demoral and didn't want it because I hate feeling druggy...By 5pm I was alert and wanted to go home. I had mine done at a medical center and had the option of staying the night so i do not know what or where you are having yours. Best of Luck

I had mine on 4/1/08. I had to arrive at 6 a.m., was scheduled for surgery at 7:30, but it started 15 or 20 minutes late. I was out of surgery by 8:30 and was on my way home by 12:30. Good luck with your banding!

I had my surgery at 9:30am on 1/9/08 and was home by 5pm that same day. I was back to work in 3 days. My husband had his on 1/16/08 at 10am and was home by 7pm, also back to work in 3 days. I did not take the pain meds and felt better as soon as I started walking around. Don't get me wrong you will have some pain in your side. Good Luck!
