Question:
Where can I find Calcium Citrate?
My surgery date is March 4th and I need to stock up on the things needed. I have not been able to find the Calcium Citrate chewables with Vtamin D 1500mg calcium and 400 iu vitamin d. Can anyone tell me where I can get this?????????? The stores here on the cape do not carry calcium CITRATE chewables, NOT CITRATE and the doctor said it has to be citrate. Also I'm a little confused, The doctor and nutricianist said No carbinated anything but the Flinstones vitamines and I can't remember if it was the calcium or protein powder has carbination. Can anyone explain this to me???? Thank you. — Cheri G. (posted on February 14, 2008)

You may have to go on-line to find what you are looking for in the way of
Calcium-Citrate. You can call your physician too, if that is the
recommendation, they should know where to send you. I am not sure about
which thing is carbonated, but carbonation is bad because it blocks the
absorption of calcium and affects the mineral balance in the body and it
also can suppress the immmune system for up to 16 hours. I am by no means
an expert, but I am an RN and do Nutritional Coaching, so feel free to
email me if you have any other questions in the area of nutrition-

If a Vitamin Shoppe is in your area check there if not got to their
website. The brand is Twin Labs and they will know what you are talking
about. Centrum also have a chewable vitamin -- orange flavored.
Carbonation one -- gives you gas and the other it will-- over time stretch
your pouch so carbination of any kind is out. The carbination in the
vitamins must be very minimal because of number or post op patients take
them. I took the Centrum.
Also, there appears to be some correlation between obesity and vision. You
might want to see if you can get in to have an eye exam prior to surgery
and another exam with the same physician once you have lost what you
consider to be a significant amount of weight. I'm not having vision
problems but some weird headaches so I'm checking everything. The nuero
opthamaologist told me she sees a lot of obese patients and your eyes also
tell how obese you are --so please get them checked before surgery and make
sure to tell your physician you are having the weight loss surgery and
would like a thorough eye exam now to compare later -- should there be a
need.
Stay in touch and let us know how things went.

Calcium citrate is a little difficult to locate. I went to a health food
store (not GNC), but a real one, and asked. They had chewables (tasted like
pinneapple, that I dislike), capsules, and powder. I chose the powdered and
mix it with morning oatmeal and with other foods or shake in the afternoon.
Nothing carbonated refers to beer, sodas, etc.--those bubbly type of
drinks, including champagne. Protein powder is normall either soy or
whey--and whey is considered best because it is easier to absorb for RNY
patients. DAVE

Walmart and Walgreens have calcium citrate. My bottle jsut say calcium
chewables. Just do not let them talk you in to tums(calcium carbonate).
Flinstone vitamins are ok. Buy samples of protein. make sure you like it
before you stock up. I have had a hard time with it. I have not come
across any protein that has carbonation in it as of yet. Good Luck with
your up coming surgery!!!!!

By far the best place I found to get my Calcium and Mulit-Vitamins are at
http://www.bariatricchoice.com/. Cheapest site and they ship almost the
same day. I got mine in less than 3 days after ordering it. It was cheaper
than buying it local or at my doctor's office.

If you just take flintstone kid chewable viatmins they do not have
carbination in them. I took them and it was just fine. But I take the
gummy bear vitamins so much nicer and they have the bear on them. They
taste greatr.

the IU but Vita-Lady carries Vitamin D. Good luck!

Cheryl my surgery date is March 3rd. GNC has the chewable Calcium citrate
that is cherry flavored w/vitamin D. No protein drinks or vitiamins should
have carbonation. I am taking these and they don't.I started them up early
just to get in the habit of doing it. Since we are so close in date I would
love to chat with you about our surgery types and what not. I'd be happy to
answer any questions you may have.Best wished to you-Lisa Renee.

First of all, to answer your question, as most already have.... it's tough
to find in stores... I wasn't able to take the hard to swallow pills until
3.5 months out, otherwise you have to get the chewables online usually.
Second, I just had to comment on your name..... because mine is Cheryl
Keller.... smile. Good luck and congrats on your surgery coming up.
You're about to live your best life! Hugs...Cheryl

I got the calcium at WalMart. They are also available at Walgreens. They
are called Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D. They are rather big pills and so
I just got a pill crusher and did that. It wasn't bad since they don't have
a taste really to them. Good luck on your surgery and your new life. It is
a great experience.

Cheryl,
The best Chewable "Orange flavored" Calcium Citrate tablets I
have found is made by Building Blocks. I didn't care for their chocolate
ones (even though I am a chocoholic.) Their web site is bbvitamins.com
I also had tried Bariatric Advantage lozenges...it was like sandpaper
rubbing on my tongue and the roof of my mouth.
Best of Luck.

I use a calcium citrate capsule and UpCal D powder. I don't touch calcium
carbonate.
I'm thinking your question about carbonation is to do with soda or beer?
Bubbles? Some think that it stretches the pouch.
Calcium carbonate is a form (bad), and carbonation is bubbles (some say
bad), but one has nothing to do with the other.
Does that help?

Try Citracal. They are chocolate and taste good. Make sure you take your
vitamin in the am and calcium at night.
Viactiv are good too but they are calcium carbonate.

I love the chewable chocolate Citracal too. I have a hard time finding
them in the stores, so I buy them online. I have one twice a day, and it
feels like I'm eating a piece of chocolate. Delicious!

Carbonation means that carbon dioxide (a gas) has been dissolved into a
liquid... usually soda or beer.
I think you might be confusing this with products that contain carbon
compounds such as sodium carbonate (washing soda/soda ash), calcium
carbonate (found in antacids), magnesium cabonate (antacid, osmotic
laxative, and used to keep salt from clumping), and lithium carbonate (used
to treat bipolar disorder).
As far as carbonation goes, think fizz. Soda, beer, chamgpagne, sparkling
water, alka-seltzer, and pop-rocks are probably the most common places
you'll find it.
You'll burp or pass gas before your stomach/pouch explodes, so don't worry
about that, but it could make you uncomfortable.
Best wishes.

Mission Pharmical who are the makers of Citracal Creamy Bites, have
discontinued this product! I love the Chocolate and Lemon Creamy Bites! I
have taken them for just about two years now and loved them. Now I am on
the hunt for a good chewable Calcium Citrate..........
