I have Aetna NAP. It took 4 days after my surgeon submitted my paperwork
to get approval for my RNY (after about 4 months of hoop jumping). If my
choice had been LAP-band, it would also have been covered.

I have Aetna HMO (PA). After all of the testing, evaluations, letters and
information that was submitted, I was denied. I appealed through all
levels and was fortunate enough to have an external review option (3rd
party independent reviewer). On July 6th 2007 I was approved for lap band
surgery. After calling/writing/faxing/screaming/threatening Aetna daily
for an authorization code, I only received that today. My surgery will
finally be in August 2007. Quite a fight and I understand the restrictions
are only going to get worse to be approved. Stay the course and be
patient!! Best of Luck!
