Question:
I have tenative surgery date on July 10th. My blood tests shows that I am anemic.
Will this keep me from having surgery? — Evelyn J. (posted on June 15, 2007)

Hi Evelyn, I dont think it matters and I will tell you why, my best friend
had the surgery and became anemic AFTER the gastric bypass. Every doctor or
surgeon is different though as to what they will allow, I would ask NOW so
you dont get yur hopes up and find out different as the date draws nearer.
Best of Luck!! Mickey.........

I agree.Find out now.My best friend was anemic and the Doc's Gave her a
prescription for iron pills. But do talk to your
Doc. they know by the numbers how low your iron levels are,
And what you need and how much if anything you need
GOOD LUCK!!!!! SABRINA

it all depends on what your numbers are --anything below a 10.0 and you
should not have the surgery -- you will lose about 2.0 off your score
during surgery due to blood loss -- iron pills should boost your numbers
-- what makes you anemic? i was anemic before my surgery and i had to wait
-- your numbers should be above an 11.0 to get into the normal range -- but
if you start getting your red blood cells up now you should be fine before
surgery -- mine were low due to medical treatments but after a month they
were fine and went up naturally -- the best of luck to you --but remember,
talk to your surgeon!!
