Question:
I had TAH and b4 that I am anemic and now they put me on Repliva
I am on repliva now. It is expensive and only 21 days of active iron and 7 inactive can you explain to me why? If I am so anemic at age 41 it is a 7 would they put me on a 7 days inactive pill? Thanks — tavtatty (posted on January 1, 2007)

I am not iron deficient so I cannot relate to your exact issue. However,
any time I'm put on a new medication that I'm not familiar with, I look at
the pharmaceutical website for that particular medication. It is very
informative and often answers my questions.
The site for Repliva is www.repliva.com. It thoroughly explains the
reasoning for the 21/7 dosing schedule. Iron is not an easy suppliment for
our bodies to digest, and it sounds like this medication was developed to
be easy to absorb and digest. It is designed to make the harsh side effects
more tollerable.
It has nothing to do with how low your numbers are. Instead it's supposed
to help you avoid the typical iron therapy side effects of constipation,
nausea, stomachaches and diarrhea.
As GBS patients, we already have absorption issues. It looks to me like
your physician took that into consideration and placed you on the
medication that made the most sense to him.
I hope this helped.

I dont know about Repliva, but I did alot of research on this site and Rx
Trinsicon, is an excellant choice for iron for RNY'ers it contains
intrensic factor (special liver-stomach concentrate) we now lack the
intrensic factor our bodies need to absorb the iron. All of my iron levels
were low and I also had a TAH and I dont have any side effects, or
problems associated with taking iron. Rose
