Question:
IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET A AROUND THE EXCLUSION CLAUSE FOR THE SURGERY?
MY EMPLOYER PURCHASED THE POLICY WITH AND EXCLUSION CLAUSE FOR GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY. OTHER THAN GEETING A LOAN ARE THERE ANY RESOURCES FOR GETTING FUNDS TO HELP PAU FOR THIS PROCEDURE. — roberta L. (posted on July 26, 2001)

Have you spoken with your employer about this? You can request that your
employer look into removing the exclusion. If you would like to email me
privately, I would be happy to go over this in more detail.

Hi, While I haven't had the surgery yet, my employer waved the exclusion
in the policy and has opted to pay for the surgery, if I go to an "in
network" doctor. The doctor that I originally wanted to see at BTC,
is not in my network, so I am currently awaiting to consultations with
network doctors so that I can proceed. Sometimes, when employers realize
the overall savings to them due to taking care of problems before they get
bigger, they are willing to wave the exclusions....keep trying.

Hi, Bobbie, I'm in the same spot, but my employer wouldn't help. I've
given up on insurance paying for the surgery, and will somehow have to
raise the money. I plan to turn in an insurance policy, bought over 20
years ago, and with a lot of cash value. I may also have to sell some
stock (this is my Nest Egg, and this will be traumatic for me since I am
not THAT far away from retirement) to cover hospital and other living
costs. If I had any credit, I'd put it on my credit card! Best of luck,
Margie
