I would not try any type of nut right now...if you had gastric bypass your
stomach may not be able to tolerate nuts; remember everything you eat needs
to be chewed until it's mushy. I would recommend waiting til about 3
months out. As for as pizza toppings, I've been able to eat vegi pizza, but
not any meat toppings...of course, you may experience something different.

Lani, what did your NUT & DR say? That is what you need to follow.
Your Dr knows what shap your pouch is in and how much healing needs to be
done yet.

I think whole nuts may be pushing it. I would wait at least 6-12 weeks.
What type of pizza toppings? I would hold back on them too except for maybe
ground meat or sausage. The vegetables could give you problems. Give
yourself at least six weeks before getting too adventuresome. Do you have a
diet your surgeon gave you? I would follow that pretty closely if you are
looking to avoid problems. You have a lifetime ahead of you to reintroduce
foods.

I agree with all above but would emphasize the pizza topping part. Be
careful - it may be too greasy. Most pizzas are not the best things to eat
ever. I'm 2 1/2 years post op and have had a slice of pizza maybe three
times.

4 weeks is pretty soon to be introducing foods like nuts and pizza. You
should still be wanting to stick exactly to the diet the doc and nut gave
you. I am 10 months out and still have a hard time with nuts. They cause
my stomach to cramp really bad and it just isn't worth it. I can tolerate
pizza ok, but normally try to talk myself out of it because of all the
grease. Plus I don't want to get into all the habits I had before.
Remember that this surgery isn't a magic way to lose your weight and keep
it off. It is a tool and if you go back to your old way of eating then you
might as well have never had the surgery. You need to be willing to make
those sacrifices now because if you don't, you won't be makeing them later.
Take it from someone who has been there. I haven't gained weight, but I
am still struggling with that issue.

I was still on soft foods at 4 weeks out, or just barely eating solids.
There is no way that pizza, becuase of the grease, would have done well
with my pouch. But, some people do ok with it right away. That early on, it
caused me to dump. I am now almost 5 months out and have had the top of a
piece of pizza once and I was only able to eat about half of it before I
felt sick. I do ok with nuts, but I didn't try them until about 3 months
out to be safe, adn I chewed them for a long time.
I second the suggestion to ask your surgeon or nutritionist about foods
that you can or cannot have - they know what they did to you the best -
some surgeons have their patients eating solid food before they leave the
hospital (not something I can even fathom being able to do), everyone's
surgery is individually tailored for thier bodies and only your dr or nut
can really advise you. But, if you still want to go for it, eat it very
slowly, in the comfort of your home the first time out - you definitely
don't want to be out somewhere searching for the nearest bathroom in case
any of it makes you sick - been there, not fun. Good luck!
