Question:
Dead Stop

I'm almost 3 weeks out and have come to a complete stop at losing weight in fact I gained 2 lbs. Currently I'm on a blended diet and not getting any results. I'm becoming frustrated and scared that I the surgery won't be successful. Also if anyone has any ideas for meals for the blended diet that would be great. Any incouragement would be appreciated.    — angelhonee (posted on August 1, 2009)

TMI - I know I had a bit of trouble losing weight right when "Aunt Flo" came to town. Is she due? When she comes, we tend to put on water weight. My weight loss halted for a bit too. I'm sure, you'll be successful with the surgery. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck

I stayed at the same weight for the 3rd and most of 4th week out - and felt that same frustration - My doctors best advice...avoid the scale. It does work. I am 7 weeks out and have lost 45 lbs. I am stuck again this week (I weighed two times this week...naughty me!) I mix ice, a banana, yogurt, a bit of milk and protein powder in the blender every morning and it seems to go down and be working, Good luck to you - you will do fabulous.

I am a year and a half out and have finally reached goal, but I want to prepare you for the plateaus. I had one that lasted around 3 months around my 6th month. I also had some that last a few weeks in my earlier months of the journey. Ride them out and stick to plan. You body has to stop and adjust each time you drop weight. You will also find the tape measure will continue to show a loss at these times. Good luck.

Hi! I did a similiar thing..I wouldn't lose weight for 3 weeks, then poof, 3 lbs down. It was frustrating, but I met goal in 9-10 months. Also, when I was about 3 months out I was told by my nut to increase my daily intake...it helped a great deal and my weight started melting off. Talk to your nut about your situtation. Best of luck to you! hugs,Kim

You know, it's a little crazy how are bodies change after surgery. I've learned not to get on the scale every day (try just Saturday mornings); get in your protien; take Biotin daily for your hair loss (mine is minimal); walk; and know that I will be at standstills every so often. I am 6 months out and lost 72 lbs. July was getting to me because I didn't lose any weight, but I stayed with the plan and went down a size in my pants. Go Figure! Now it is dropping off again. People say it's your bodies way of adjusting to this weight loss. I think they are right. You will lose the weight, it is inevitable. When I think I won't ever lose, I just think of where I came from. YOU WILL DO IT!! Keep on going because I love my new size 16 pants and you will too when you get there. I am rooting for you!

Hi Natasha I will be 3 weeks out tomorrow and have almost the same situation. I have lost 6 pounds since surgery actually 8 but gained 2 pounds of it back. I check my weight every morning and I feel I better stop as well. I am eating soft proteins now and drinking all 64 oz of water a day. I am following everything to a T. I am frustrated as well as well as concerned as you are. However on the positive side - I feel so much better and thinner. People are noticing that I am losing weight. I assume they are noticing the inches coming off as I feel. I know I made a great choice because I have not had to take any of my meds for diabetes and high blood pressure. My sugars are perfect now as not before. So stick to the plan and I know that we will both be losing our excess baggage soon. Keep in touch. Gay

I too had a standstill at about 3 weeks out for about a week. Then I droped again. Then I had another standstill and then I started working out agressively and had a good drop. Then I had some back issues and had to back off on workouts some and slowed down again. Then I had a time that seemed like I was flushing a lot of fluids out and lost 2 lbs a day for about a week. In all it's been 4 months and I have lost about 75 lbs total. I seem to fluxuate with 2 or 3 lbs. My doctors office said that checking your weight everyday helps keep it off long term. I think you have to do what is best for you but don't let the numbers stress you out. As other have said sometimes you will lose in inches as you are building muscle and the scales won't go down much. I have noticed that if I weigh myself in the morning compared to mid day and to evening my weight fluxuates. It's typical and nothing to worry about. I've gained as much as 4 lbs but within a few days or a week or so it was back off again. I don't have cycles anymore due to a hystrectomy eighther. I'm sure you'll be successful and I hope you feel a little better and can relax and allow your body to adjust as it needs to. It is a bit stressful on our bodies losing all this weight but better for us in the long run. God bless Lisa
