Question:
Post Op since 4/02-gained lots of weight w/pregnancy (first baby) could a revision be

possible? I had lap RNY procedure max. weight was 320lbs. I lost by Aug. 04, I weighed 163lbs. I unexpectedly become pregnant in Oct. 04 (have a beautiful 5mth old son) was told I never would get pregnant w/out medical help. I am currently at 215lbs AND hate it. I am back to being tired all the time (I know part of being new mommy), no energy to exercise. I have been able to do some exercise but not like I was before. I eat normal-not like pre surgery-butnot like post surgery either. Thinking of revision but surgeon I used previously is in another area, don't know where to turn, who to ask, could a revision be in my future? Who should I contact? I am afraid to get fat again....I am so disappointed in myself. I had come such a long way. I loved being pregnant and love my son more than words BUT I want to feel good again. Thank you.    — leannta (posted on December 13, 2005)

Leslie, If you are not nursing I would go back to the post-op basics and restart your metabolism. It may be hard after eatting what you want for so long but a revision is too drastic especially since you truly only have 52lbs to lose. You will just have to monitor your portions, sugar intake and the amount of carbs -v- proteins that you are intaking. It is all up to you. You will need to be just as committed to losing this weight as you were when you first had the surgery. Take the baby for walks in the stroller for about 30 mins everyday and if you have to get up and do the early AM aerobics that are always on TV. Just treat this a plateau that you are trying to get past. I know you know how. BTW, I found out that I am 6 weeks pregnant yesterday so I am saying this as much for you as I am for myself. Tiffany

I can only reiterate what the previous good advice sugested. A revision is drastic and should only be resorted to for urgent medical reasons. Every surgical procedure has it's risks and just because you never had any problems the first time does not mean that you wont this time around. So, back to basics, remember how you ate when you first went home.from your surgery last time, mesure your meals, watch your fats and sugars and grt behind the stroller, your baby will love it, and watch the ponds fall off. let us know how it goes

I just want to encourage you that you can beat this thing. May I also suggest using some support foods that are great for getting back on track. I had recently gained weight from prednisone and was really feeling defeated. I switched to using Revival soy protein bars and the weight is dropping again after a very difficult stall. I use Revival Low Carb Choc/PB bars. It's like having a crispy treat without the high cal/sugar and fat. You may also want to get in touch with a nutritionist that is familiar with WLS. SHe/He can guide you to an appropriate food plan. Meanwhile- enjoy your miracle baby. Keep in mind WLS helped make that happy.

I would try everything else before having a revision! Take walks with your baby. even in winter, the fresh air will be good for both of you, and the baby will enjoy it! You can also see if you can find a baby and me gym class, in which you use your baby as a weight for exericses, and play at the same time. You can also meet other mothers this way, and have playgroups for your babies! You should make sure you are getting your protein and other nutrients, too. Try taking up a hobby such as crocheting ( a Knifty Knitter makes knitting really easy!) and when you sit in fromt of the tv, work on it so you keep your hands too busy to reach for goodies. Are you drinking your water? Good luck, and congratulations on your little blessing!
