Question:
Does protein powder make anyone else sick?

I have surgery 4/29 and the only thing the doctors office wants me to do is high protein, low carb and low fat meals. So I tried Unjury vanilla powder in yogurt and I actually thought it was okay but afterward I get really nauseated. I don't throw up but it is an uncomfortable feeling? Is that normal before surgery? Is that the feeling I will get after surgery? Or could it be that my body is saying "What the heck! something healthy coming in here?" Does your body need time to adjust to all the extra protein and vitamins? I guess it would make sense. I know everything changes after surgery taste wise, or so I have heard.......Hugs.... I to have had difficulty adding protein powder. When you add it to your food, make sure you do not stir it too much, or too quickly as this will incorporate a lot of extra air. The extra air will definately make you feel nauseated. Also, are you using powder that is lactose free? I personally was very sensitive to lactose prior to surgery, and cannot seem to tolerate it at all now that I am post surgery. You may need to consider changing powders. I was not successful with protein shakes either, but did have luck with Isopure and different protein waters. Kellogs has protein water available. It is good, and although does not provide as much protein as prefered, I think it is a good option to get at least some of the protein your body needs. Good luck!

it is all about trial and error!! what works for one person will not work for others. i tried lots of different ones prior to my surgery and too had a hard time finding something to tolerate. i lived off the slim fast low carb the first 6mo after my surgery. make sure you try the low carb, because they are the lowest in sugar and have lots of protein-the high protein ones have too much sugar. good luck and you will find something that works for you, just keep trying. hope this helps!

Hi Donna I am sorry you did not feel well. --------------------------------------------------------- I have a few questions that might be helpful in pinpointing the problem. UNJURY has essentially no lactose because we use only Whey Protein Isolate...no Whey Protein Concentrate. --------------------------------------------------------- How much UNJURY did you mix -- into how much yogurt? The yogurt will have some lactose...so one test is just try the UNJURY in water (even tho' that is not the best recipe at all...it is just to test) and if you don't have trouble, it is not the UNJURY it is the yogurt or whatever you are mixing it into at the time. --------------------------------------------------------- If you would like, you can call one of our RDs during the day 9 to 6, Mon to Fri, 1800 517 5111 and they might be able to help. While we get top ratings for tolerability, you might feel better knowing that if nothing works, you can always get a 100% refund from UNJURY, OK? Kind regards Jerome UNJURY Protein

My surgery is 4/27. I'm using the Bariatric Advantage. The receptionist at my dr. recommends strawberry with water, vanilla and banana with milk. I'm doing them all with milk. I recently found I get very nauseated and gassy with milk, so I'm doing the Lactaid fat free milk and ice with two scoops in the blender. For me, it's the consistency that makes me feel yucky. Maybe the same with you? I need something a bit more frothy. Otherwise, it's like eating wallpaper paste! :) I heard that using the blender after surgery is not recommended because of the air/frothiness. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. In any case, I am getting a little bit of a loose stool, to which I attribute the cleansing of my body, not the product itself.

I hated all protein drinks before surgery, and got little belly aches...After surgery the smell gagged me before i could even take a sip. I became lactose intolerant after surgery and ONLY protein I could somehwat handle was the clear No carbs "Isopure" in glass bottles...VERY expensive, but for three months it was my only way to insure I got in my protein as well as with my meals... (I ate pureed and soft protein immediately) So, I was not on any liquid diets after RNY, like so many seem to be...But my favorite was homemade chicken soup (with the pureed chicken, carrots and celery from the soup) As time went on, it got thicker with less broth and more meat...I did this with beef stews/soups as well...No...I never "Adjusted" to protein...But after 5 years I finally did find two I actaully like...One I get at Costco by EAS (soy and whey isolate blend)...It tastes good whipped frothy in my instant coffee every morning with a dash of cinnamon...And Muscle milk chocolate is by far the best smelling tasting protein ever! But unfortunately I can only handle a half serving or it gives me a belly ache! Not sure if it's al the vitamins they add to it or the sweetener or just whey that hates me! Good luck...Protein is a VERY personal and individual preferrance...Trust that! Yucky stuff! LOL and trust me, after 5 years I have tried so many! EEEEWWWWW!
