Question:
Pork Skins?
I am 5 months post op RNY and I was wondering can we eat Pork Skins? I found some that are microwavable and they are in a pack like popcorn. They have 3 servings in a pack @ 60 cal. a serving and carb less than 1 and protein 9 grams. Is this an ideal snack to eat? — Kbrisbon (posted on November 24, 2008)

I've heard these mentioned before. I'd be more worried about the fat
content, frankly, considering what they are. I wouldn't eat them unless
your Nut says it's okay.

I don't do well with animal fats or things high in animal fat...Like
chicken skin. These did not go down too good for me...There is a whole lot
of fat in those....If they go doen ok I am sure they are ok as long as you
dont over do it because of the fat calories...as far as snacks go anything
that is not a fruit or a vegetable or yogurt is going to either have a
whole lot of carbs or a whole lot of fat...It is probably better to get
used to not having them...

I know a lot of post ops/grads eat them...I always thought of them as a
fatty snack that I would rather stay away from...I bought some one day to
try them since they do have a decent protein number for a snack...They
kinda grossed me out! They had a taste I could not quite stomach. Although
my head didn't much like the idea of eat pork skins anyway! LOL So I don't
eat them...but many do! I'd rather eat soy crisps for a crunchy protein
snack.

Hi ! I am 5 months out also and I have tried the pork skins, but they just
sat there..I know the calories are low ..but they may not be the best
choice. once in a great while..maybe. But you meant you eat them as a
meal right. Since we aren't suppose to snack. I had mine for a meal..but
only ate part of 1 oz and had something else with it. Prob cheese, since i
eat a lot of cheese. lol Hope this helps. Hugs, Kim

I eat them when i have a crunchy chip craving and they are great. No
fat/carbs. As with everything, eat w/ moderation.
