Has any one had PCSO and did it go away after surgery?

Do you mean Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome(PCOS) I have suffered from this for most of my adult life. I had lapband surgery at the end of June and in those 3 months since surgery things have started getting back to normal and I went to the doctor the other day and she said it looks like I am improving in that department. There is definately hope. Good Luck!!

I have not had surgery yet but my gyn feels the surgery is a wonderful tool in helping with PCOS. There is a forum just for PCOS if you search for it. I also have found www.soulcysters.net to be very helpful and they have a forum for people who have had WLS. Good luck!!

I had a lap RNY on 4.15.08 as of today I'm at the half way mark on total weight loss. The surgeon, gp and gyn just finished reviewing my blood tests with me last wee. In general all was well nutritionally but they also checked the PCOS. The main measure of PCOS is the amount of free testosterone in your blood (there are other things thyroid, cholesterol... to check as well) ours is usually high this time my limits were in the low to normal range. The GP and surgeon want me to stop the meds for PCOS now (having issues with dizziness and low blood pressure and they think the sprinolactone (sp?) water pill is why) , the Gyn wants another 30 days but either way things are looking up. GYN wants to switch from the pill (chewables who knew?) to estrogen to help keep the hair in line going forward but otherwise after the 30 days is willing to say I still have PCOS but no symptoms. There's hope but you have to keep on top of it.

I have/had PCOS most of my puberty (I am 32 and will be 33 in November) and I also had had Gastric Bypass on July 19, 2004. My periods were always irregular and heavy. My highest weight was 462 lbs. I lost over -300 lbs. As I lost weight, my periods went to normal...I cycle per month. I used to have periods that would last for days and days that turned into months and months. Then I would go without a cycle for months and months. My current weight is between 150-160 lbs now (depends on the day of the month). I now have iron-deficency anemia and am suppose to be getting Iron Infusions (Venafer) 3 times/week. I can't afford the treatments, so I am not taking them and stay weak and sick ALL the time. I am afraid that 1 morning I am not going to wake up. I have about 40lbs of excess skin. The plastic surgeon told me that I do not need to lose anymore weight because when I have plastic surgery, I will look under-weight. I am 5'3. So, I am trying to maintain my current weight.

I have had PCOS for as long as I have had a period. I am 34 years old, and I had it when I was heavy and when I was thin. Unfortunately for me, I had to have 2 blood transfusions, because I lost so much blood. I was in the hospital had a D&C (did not work), then I had an endometrial ablation (did not work), I finally had to have a radical hysterectomy to stop the bleeding. Before the surgeries my doctor was perscribing me Metformin which is a diabetic drug that helps many people with PCOS to help regulate their hormones. I wish you the best of luck

I have not had my surgery yet, but when I had my consult with my surgeon he said that after surgery, I would be almost free from all symptoms of my PCOS. When him and I watched the video of the surgeries, it had a special section on health issues that the surgery would basically cure. PCOS was one of them. So, I am hoping that it helps mine when I get my surgery. Good Luck. ( There is also a PCOS forum....I ask questions on there all the time.)

I don't know if it will ever entirely "go away" because there are thin women that have it too. However, MOST of us with it struggle with our weight and weight makes it worse. I had RNY in March and have been completely OFF the medications I took for PCOS (including metformin and byetta). I do take a birth control now to keep my periods regular. I think that if I take care of myself the PCOS will behave itself!! I hope!! So far so good! Best of luck to you!
