Question:
5 1/2 yrs out problems with diarrhea

Has anyone else had this problem with this far out seams any thing I eat goes right through me I also have some cramps and get sick some I went to ER one nite they ran all kinds of test and could not find nothing wrong this has been going on for 1 mth now 1 of my drs has ordered some more test I haft to have bowel movemt next 3days and send it in    — Beth67Mathis (posted on November 8, 2007)

Have you been checked for lactose intolerance? I was just diagnosed with this after having the same symptoms you're describing for several months. You'd be surprised how many foods have milk products in them!

Beth, I am also just over 5 years post Roux-en-y. For the first six months or so my bowel habits were okay, but I had strictures so I wasn't really eating a lot. Here's where life gets interesting. When I got about 2 years or so out I got incredibly constipated. I had gone 3 weeks without a bm even taking over the counter laxatives and such. It got so bad that I started vomiting stool so my paramedic boyfriend took me to the hospital. Their answer was to give me and IV and stop the vomiting and try to give an enema which I had attempted before, but they tried without success. At any rate the hospital where I live referred me to a local GI doctor who ordered a prescription that did help a little bit, but I was still extremely sick. I ended up having to drink 3 gallons of bowel prep before I could have a colonoscopy and they found that I was healing lower and needed to be dilated. Since that time I am either constipated (not nearly that bad) or having diarrhea. I am just very thankful that I don't have the vomiting that I used to. I'm sorry this wasn't so helpful for you, just know that others do have it and even way worse.

Thanks to all that responded to my question I had gastricbypas and now have found out I have a infection but I think it was from a bad steak I got about a mth ago cause a day or to after eating it was when I started geting sick

There is a bad virus going around Mississippi. So bad several school districts have been put on alert so that the virus does not spread!!! The name of the virus is Shigella. You might want to see if this could be part of your problem.

Could it be dumping symdrome? You get cramps and diarrea with it. Any food over 15grams of sugar does this to me. I four months out with rny have lost 75 lbs.
