Question:
I'm ten months out and wondering how many calories should I consume?
Right now I'm only consuming about 900 calories, and I find myself not losing weight. — glennk (posted on March 18, 2007)

I'd say speak with the nutritionists at your surgeon's office.

Hi... How much of that 900 calories is protein? What type of foods are
making up that 900 calories? Are you getting in the proper amount of water?
Are you exercising? Are you taking all of your vitamins? If you have
answered these questions with healthy answers, then I would consult my
dietician, they are the experts, tap into that expertise.

Hi Kar-Re, glad to see your question. That was a struggle for me when I
first had surgery. It is hard to balance what to eat and in our heads we
always have the calorie thing going on. My advice from my surgeon was to
not count calories, but concentrate on water, protein and exercise. I did
just that, and was glad to not have the calorie burden. I would say to you
that it depends on what calories you are eating. For example, if you are
drinking milk, yogurt and cottage cheese, meats, etc for protein, you might
be close to your limit. If you are straying from protein intake and
enjoying other foods, you could be causing your body to not lose weight.
What is your exercise like? If you dont' exercise, your pouch will only
take you so far, then that is it. You are getting to the end of your
honeymoon period, use that tool for all it is worth. If you choose to not
exercise and build up a program for yourself Kar-Re, respectfully, you will
begin to gain weight after a time. Diet is not enough, you must tone the
body and teach it to use the muscle that you have. Don't be discouraged.
Weight loss is a tough thing, but find where you are in need, calorie
reduction, or avoid calories all together and go back to basics, protein,
water and exercise. be sure you are away from soda and other harmful
products that confuse the body right now. Protect your pouch, it needs
your protection to be of the best use for you. I wish you well. Patricia
