Evette,
All you need it one good multi vitamin. Perferably ask you family doc. to
perscribe you a Prenatle vitamin most of them will. If not just get a
Centrum Womans One a day or something on that order. Make sure they are not
capsules or time release because those will not work in our tiny tummies.
And I was told make sure they are sugar free. You can also take a childrens
sugar free chewable I started off on those. Bugs Bunny I believe make them
sugar free. Later on down the road your surgeon or family PC might sugjest
B-12 and calcium but for right now all you need to worry about is a good
multi-vitamin once a day. Thats all you should need. Your WLS friend Jo

Evette, I had problems with vitamins in general as I have an allergy to
concentrated Vitamin C. I have had to resort to getting my supplements from
many different vitamin pills and liquids. I take Vitamin B Complex, Vitamin
B-12, Vitamin A 10,000 units, Folic acid, Iron supplement, and yes I take a
GOOD calcium supplement from tropical oasis. I Also do Protien 2X a day to
add 20 grams of protien.
I had By-pass 7 months ago and am down 102 pounds and have had no problems
from the surgery, except the occaisional frothing vomits.

It is essential to continue taking your vitamins the rest of your life
following surgery to avoid vitamin and mineral deficiencies. These are
vitamin B-12, calcium citrate and multiviamins. Patients who are anemic or
have low iron will require iron supplementation. Take vitamin C with iron.
Vitamin B-12(requires a sublingualor injection supplement. You can also
take Fish Oil Tablets if you suffer with dry skin. You can order your
vitamins from Bariatric Advantage .com and they have a list of just about
everthing you might need after surgery. You can also visit Vitalady .com.
I suggest that you start attending a support group if they have one in your
area. That helps me out a lot. I hope this answer your questions. Good
Luck.

The bare minimum you should be taking is: 2 multivitamins/minerals daily,
1500 mg calcium/vit D daily, and a B-12 supplement. Do not take your
multivitamin and calcium at the same time as the calcium interferes with
the absorbtion of the iron in the multi.
Additional you can take if desired: zinc to help with hair loss, biotin to
help with hair loss, magnesium to help with calcium absorbtion and
chocolate cravings (may also help with constipation).

I forgot to add that you shouldn't take more than 500 mg of calcium at a
time as you won't absorb any over that. I take pills 5 times a
day....multivitamin first thing in the morning; B12 (yes, I take a capsule
and my levels are 3x normal), magnesium with zinc, and calcium after bfast;
multivitamin before lunch (when I remember or middle of afternoon); B12,
calcium, mag with zinc after lunch. I take some other supplements also
(personal reasons) and take some of those after my evening meal. Carmen

I disagree with the first poster. My surgeon probably does too. This link
