Question:
HAS ANYONE GOTTEN PREGNANT AFTER GASTRIC BYPASS?
DID THE PREGNANCY GO NORMAL? HOW MUCH WEIGHT GAIN? WAS IT EASY TO GET OFF AFTER THE BABY? ANY SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS? — DAWN B. (posted on July 12, 2003)

My neice got pregnant at 4 months post op. Her pregnancy was considered
high risk but her baby was born healthy and she has since lost all the baby
weight plus lost down to goal. She has had some minor health problems
since the baby but they can't say if it's RNY or pregnancy related and they
aren't serious. The pregnancy wasn't as "fun" as pregnancy
usually is simply because there was so much concern for my niece and her
baby but everything turned out fine. The best thing she did for herself
was get to the doctor practically the minute she discovered she was
pregnant and then he referred her to a high risk obstetrician. Once you're
18 months post op you should easily be able to experience a normal
pregnancy. Hope this info helps!

po wls...Unfortunalty i had no idea i was pregnant and was having a
miscarriage. I wasnt ready mentally or phsycally and feel that there was
reasons for my miscarriage sad but true. Give your body time to heal
before having a baby..just my suggestion and thoughts good luck to

My daughter lost 240 lbs. after her WLS. She had always had extremely
irregular periods and had been told that it was likely that she would have
significant infertility problems. She got pregnant on her honeymoon,
carried a most beautiful and healthy 8 1/2 lb. baby girl to term, and had
absolutely no problems. Her OB checked with our bariatric surgeon and was
told to double the daily prenatal vitamins and to check labs every two
months during the pregnancy. The labs were actually better at the end of
the pregnancy than at the beginning. She gained 30 lbs. (had a lot of
fluid gain during the last month or so) and had lost 36 lbs. at her six
week postpartum check-up. She is 3 1/2 years post-WLS...her baby just
celebrated her first birthday...and she is 15 lbs. from personal goal and
happily anticipating her tummy tuck! Best wishes!
