Hi Tracy, what surgery are you having? Have you seen a Nut. yet. I was told
at first(after RNY 7/08) to drink my protein and you slowly(several steps)
work your way into foods. But follow your DR & Nut. Do exactly as they
direct you to. I try to get in between 70 & 90 grams aday in.Iam still
drinking alot as I have trbl with meats. Best of luck to you.

Thanks Julie. Im having the RNY sometime in March. Im trying to get all
the info I can but I will definitely follow instructions to the letter. Im
a nurse and I know the importance of compliance.

I agree with Julie, the poster, I too have a difficult time with protein
comsumption, so I take two protein shakes a day. My NUT says that is fine
that I supplement with shakes.
Yesterday I had an endoscopy and I did in deed have a stricture. Now I am
worried I will stop losing with the dialation.

I try to eat protein at every meal or planned snack, and even so, I can't
possibly get to 80 grams a day. My program says 60, but I can't believe
that is enough-I've used the software calculators and read lots and lots
and should probably get even closer to 100. So yes I still drink as well
as eat.
Typically I use powdered milk in my tea (2 grams in 2 tablespoons)a couple
times a day and then a scoop in my cocoa or pudding or something every day
minimum.
Good luck!

I was told I would need protein supplements for life because I can't eat
the required protein. I'm 17 months out and about 2 oz. of protein is all
I can eat at a meal. I get protein from supplements as well as meat, fish,
poultry and nuts.

Greetings Everyone:
Eat it or drink it? Go to my support group website for the answer. It is
too lengthy here to list because at this particular area of OH, we cannot
break thoughts into recognizable paragraphs. In a nutshell, part of the
issue is the bioavailability of protein for the body in foods. Eggs are
100% bioavailable for the body. Want to eat 100 grams of protein via eggs
when each egg has 6 grams? Whey protein isolate is the best resource
because it is from 100% to 159% available for the body. Go to
www.obesityhelp.com/group/BellevueWA and click on the subject of protein.
May everyone have a most joyous Christmas and a most blest 2010 filled with
peace, joy, and contentment. Congratulations everyone on making such a
conscious decision to gain control over your morbid obesity and to secure
excellent health, even if the skin does sag a bit. Blessings, Christine
Gibson, MS, MA, Bariatric University Support Group Coach, Obesity Help
Support Group Coach / Leader.

Eating food with protein IS differant. Foods contain more complete
proteins. The protein shakes are ok but they don't contain as many complete
proteins. If it isnt a complete protein, it will not be absorbed, not even
by someonewho hasnt had RNY. The other thing to keep in mind is the fact
that extra protein is excreted through the urinary system. So, the point is
that if your having to flush extra incomplete proteins, you could be
damaging your kidneys. That is why my surgeon says to only use the protein
shakes while on liquids and puree.
