Question:
Anyone taking sublingual B12?
I am taking Bariatric Advantage B12 and wondered if anyone knew if instead of slowly dissolving it under the tongue, is it safe or even effective to just swallow it? Thanks! — Jeanne C. (posted on October 11, 2009)

If you swallow it, it won't be absorbed by your body. I use a liquid B12,
the BA one didn't disolve quickly enough for me.

I thought the purpose of the sublingual B12 is so that it goes directly
into blood stream, because after WLS it's not absorbed in the digestive
track properly.

I was told by my Dr. that sublinqual is effective if it is dissolved under
the tongue, but some people still can't get it to obsorb into the blood
stream. So I've been just getting the shots every 2weeks. But it's really
up to what your Dr. says is best for you and what your labs look like. Best
of luck.

I do but it is in a liquid form that I purchase from our local Giant and
when I had my labs done.....my levels were through the roof so I know it is
working. Do not just swallow the b-12. It cannot be absorbed properly that
way.

I use the same B12. However I do not put under my tongue but in the side
of my cheek. I cant stand it under the tongue. It is still absorbed the
same in the cheek according to the directions. Would not advise swallowing
it!!

I would recommend checking wiht your doctor - I have read that for RNY
patients, we do not absorb the B-12 sublingually, which is why we have to
get bi-weekly or monthly shots.

I take the GNC sublingual product (5000 mg). It is small and doesn't take
long to dissolve under my tongue. My lab results are excellent.

I use the Bariatric Advantage. I tried B-12 Gummies, but they didn't work.

I have to put it under my tongue it takes to long to dissolve and hurts my
mouth. When I just chewed it I wasn't getting it.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I'll keep on putting it under my tongue
(although it takes forever to dissolve...I'm just impatient..LOL). My labs
did come back okay, so I guess I am absorbing it that way. I think I'll try
the liquid B12 once these are gone.

I take the B12 under the tongue because it is the best way for RNY
patients. Under the tongue method is best because we have alot of tiny
little cells that absorbs B12 perfectly according to my doctor so that's
what i'm gonna stick with.
