The lapband takes a lot of work and patience. It takes a while for the fill to be just right. It also takes more work on your part since the stomach is still whole and will accept any type of food. Thirty pounds is not bad. Just be patient.

Hi Julia, Congrats on your success so far. I know it can be frustrating to not see those pounds coming off quicker. There are so many things that can affect our weight and in my mind a one pound gain is really nothing to worry about. Hormones, sodium, stress, there are so many things that can put 5 lbs on in a hurry. I am one year out from LB surgery this friday and I have lost 60 lbs. But my eating hasn't been perfect and I only get random exercises so I know the weight loss could be higher. My surgeon says that 70 lbs in a year is the average for band patients. When I took a vacation last year, I gained 10 lbs and I was moving around on vacation a lot more than when I'm sitting at my desk job all day. But the weight did come back off when I got back into my routine. The documentation on band surgery says a 2 pound a week loss is considered successful. If that's the case, I have not been successful. But what I look at are the positive things. I'm no longer taking a fluid pill, a urinary continence pill, a pill for gastric reflux, I stopped one of my asthma pills, my blood pressure is normal and I feel better than I have in a long time. I'm down three or four clothing sizes and I can't remember the last time I had an asthma flareup. So to me this surgery has helped my life and I'm very thankful. I would do it again in a heartbeat. My goals for the new year are to get daily exercise and more sleep. All the new studies out there show that not getting enough sleep makes you eat more. Ha! I could have told them that. My other rule of thumb is that if it ain't working, go back to basics. Am I taking my calcium citrate twice a day and my lapband vitamins with calcium citrate and iron? Am I exercising? Am I getting in my two protein drinks a day? Am I sure to not drink 1/2 an hour before or 1/2 hour after a meal? Am I staying away from carbs? Am I giving my body protein, fruit and veggie at every meal? If I'm doing all of these things, then my body is where it needs to be and I don't even get on the scale. I think people tend to focus on the scale number as a measure of self worth and it's a defeating thing. You know you're much more than the number on a scale. Work with your doctor on your band adjustments when it's time. My doctor was hesitant about going higher than 4cc but everyone is different. I'm at 4.5 cc with four fills and if I'm not careful with my chewing, food gets stuck and comes back up. But some people need more fluid in their band and some less. I love the picture of you and your daughter on your site. Please keep up the good work because you're worth it. Hugs, Regina

I went thru something similar and I am a year out. I go to the dr every month. I would get fills and sometimes I would feel like "they wore off". I have 6.9 in a 9.5 band. They said it is not unusual. Be patient....Sometimes it is slow but don;t worry, it will happen!

Thanks to you all i need all the help that i can get. This is not as easy as i thought i would be. Losing 21 pounds the first week made me that it was going to be like that ever week or ever other week. and not losing anyway in two months is very hard on me.

My friend and I are going throught the same thing. We are both at 6cc., going in on Feb. 6th hopefully for another 1-2cc. I am hoping that this will give us some restriction. We are also very slow loser. I have lost 35lbs since October. and my friend have lost 26lbs. It's a slow process for some of us, so just hang on in there. I guess it will take us 8-9cc to get us started. Good Luck...
