Question:
nausea and vomiting 6 years post op help!
I have been extremely nauseated and vomiting off and on for about a month I had a CT scan and it only showed a tiny belly button hernia. Has anyone had this happen? My doctor wants to do a laproscopy and dig around to see wahts wrong. i have only been at my new job 6 months so me taking off to have surgery is not a really good choice. I started taking ginger root 2 days ago and I haven't thrown up for 2 days. before that I could only keep down soup or mashed potatoes. I am scared and don't know what to do. — cer1969 (posted on October 20, 2008)

I am 5 years post op and have thrown up twice in the last 2 weeks and I
never throw up! Have you tried to really pay attention to what you are
eating and how well you are chewing? Hope you will feel better soon!

I'm assuming that you hadn't had nausea and vomiting prior to this episode.
Have you done a pregnancy test? Have you been referred to a GI doc for a
complete workup? I would highly recommend that before surgery. Sometimes
nothing is found and going in and doing an exploratory laparoscopy is the
answer. If you do have to have surgery, perhaps you could have it done on
a Thursday and go back to work Monday so that you wouldn't miss too much
work on your new job. Just a suggestion.... of course taking more time off
would be better, but, if you can't do it you'll just have to make the best
of a bad situation. Hopefully your boss would understand.
Again, I would strongly encourage a complete workup before letting anyone
do surgery. Have you had an UGI or an upper endoscopy to check on your
pouch/stoma?
Best of luck to you... try to get in as much fluids as you can in the
meantime.

I agree with Dawn. Have some less invasive testing first. Surgeons always
want to cut. Have some labs done checking liver and pancreatic functions.
Hope you feel better soon

I don't want to scare anyone but I am post op 4 years. I had nausea and dry
heaving as I can't throw up. I went in thinking it was my gall bladder.
Turned out to be kidney cancer. I had my kidney, ureter, bladder cuff and
gall bladder removed 4 months ago. Not saying you have cancer I am saying
listen to your body and get checked out.

It's been 6 years for me also and I just had a similar problem. First I
had the EGD (light down the throat) and all looked fine. I insisted
something was wrong so they ordered a x-ray of the esophagus where you
drink the barrium liquid. This shows that I have a constricture of the
esophagus going into the stomach. I will see the doctor this week, but I
believe that he will suggest going in with a balloon to open up. I think
you may have the same problem Ask for this test as this is the best way to
show just how you digest your foods. The tech will take photos as you try
to swallow the thick liquid and phizzy stuff.

I am one year post op and have lost 120 lbs. I vomit almost once every
day...it is normal for me. Anyone else do this?
