Question:
When can you start protein bars/recommendations?
I'm going crazy being stuck on protein drinks to reach my goals. I'm two weeks out and I know I would have to chew like crazy but uggg.... I just can't stand drinking them right now. Help!!!!! I have heard about the balance 100 calorie bars anyone have any ideas? — changes (posted on April 17, 2006)

Your surgeon may tell you differently, but my nutritionist wouldn't let me
have protein bars until I was 16 weeks post-op. I thought I would never get
the drinks in either, but I found after a while you get used to it. It is
very important, so try different ones until you find something you can
handle. I like the Roadside Lemonade from Nectar. I mix one and a half
scoops with 6-8oz of Crystal light lemonade. Good luck!

I would say that you can start eating protein bars when you can start
eating solid foods with not restrictions. Probably like 6-10 weeks after
surgery. Do you like coffee? If so I've got a great recipe for a protein
latte. Also you might want to try Any Whey protein because it's flavorless
and you can add it to anything. You could just add it to some milk and not
even know it's in there. You could make protein pudding or just add it to
anything. I use it everyday and i'm nine months post op down 140 pounds.
I also don't like flavored protein drinks to much. I know alot of people
like that nectar but I don't like that to much. I hope i've helped.

Balance bars I believe have over 5 grams of sugar per serving. Check the
ingredients out to be sure the bar is within the 5 gram limit otherwise you
may dump. Also you are only two weeks out....Are you in the soft food
stage of your diet? If not I would wait on the bars until you get there
because your stomach is still healing and that is why they do the different
phases of eating for us. I didn't realize how much I liked chewing until I
had the surgery. I know what you mean about missing the chew. Sometimes
even now my craving is just to have something crunchy.

I'm right there with you, I'm out two weeks myself and I'm getting tons of
protein by drinking a 15 oz. Shake (in a can) called ABB Super Hi-Protein
Extreme Body RTD 50 Monster Skake (big name huh!). They have banana creme,
berries & cream, vanilla and chocolate. It's a big shake so you can
drink 4oz a time throughout the day until it's done. Very tasty. DO NOT
SHAKE THE CAN - it will explode! Good thing - it's 50 gms of protein per
can! And, it's moderate in calories - approx. 250! Hope this helps you!
It's beeng great for me!
