Question:
Has anyone caught C. Diff from the hospital with this surgery before?
If so how long after you started the antibiotic did it take to stop having the diarhea? I am 3 wks 2 days post op and am having a hard time getting my food in with the nausea the med. is causing. Any suggestions? My nutri said I could try a cracker or a spoon of mashed potatoes w/ protein. The med. must be taken w/food. — Tecia (posted on January 21, 2009)

If my response shows up repeatedly, my apologies. I'm having some computer
problems.
I have not had c. diff. so I can't answer your antibioti questions. As far
as nausea goes, you might want to call your doctor and ask for an
antiemetic (mediation that reduces nausea/vomiting). If pills are a
problem, you can get it as a liquid or suppository. One medication, Zofran
ODT (orally disintegrating tablet)is really easy to take... it melts in
your mouth, no water needed. Zofran is expensive and some insurances won't
pay but it might be worth looking into.
Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time.
Sid
PS. How are you doing with liquids/fluids? If you had some carnation
instant breakfast or a protein shake, that would probably count as
food--check w/ your doc.

I didn't catch anything at the hospital but I wanted to tell you I'm sorry
that happened to you. It's tough getting any medicine down I can imagine
it's more difficult with food. Which surgery did you have not that it
makes a difference with your question? I was just wondering. Hopefully
this med will do the trick and nip that bug. Best wishes to you, Corina

First, I would let the doc know about the antibiotic seemingly making me
worse. Perhaps you need a different antibiotic. Or perhaps you have
something besides c diff.
I would definitely find out before I kept having a reaction to the
antibiotic. Good Luck and God Bless,
