Question:
protein pudding
Hi all, I don't post much but I browse daily and I have a quick question. I am about 5 weeks postop down 52lbs and I am having a horrible time with nausea. I have seen many people post on here about protein pudding and I was just hoping that someone could give me a recipe or tell me where to buy this pudding. I know that getting my protein and water is the most important right now so I am trying to make sure I do that if nothing else. I am drinking Nectar for protein and I try a few bits of protein at every meal but it is really a stuggle which I am sure you all have went though. If anyone has any ideas about the protein pudding that would be awesome. Thanks and God Bless, Jackie — RN2B2009 (posted on August 30, 2008)

I use unflavored Unjury, and I add it to sugar free instant puddings. i
also use the chocolate Unjury and i put that in the sugar free chocolate. I
scoop of unjury is 20 grams of protein. When added to the instant pudding
and 1% milk, it comes out to about 15grms of protein for each 1/2 cup
serving.. Hope this helps. I'm almost 18 months out and still have at least
one of these a day.

JACKPOT Jackie.... boy, do I know a lot about protein puddings. You can
make your own or you can buy them. Please keep in mind that I had LapBand,
so I don't know exact sugar grams, I watch carbs. Here's what I do:
Snack & Slim protein puddings- chocolate and vanilla cupcake flavors in
individual servings- 2 gms carbs and 20 gms protein. They come in 4
packs... I order by the case (24) from Freedom Foods and can sometimes get
from bariatriceating.com. Just looked at a can of vanilla which I have on
hand and it is lactose free, sugar free, 1 carb and 20 gms protein. Best
if COLD! 1-949-716-4522 .
Instone protein puddings- chocolate, vanilla and banana pudding flavor (my
favorite) from Smoothie King or GNC, the Vitamin Shop or order online.
You can make your own with Sugar Free, Fat Free Instant Jello puddings of
your choosing. I play around with different protein powders and different
instant pudding flavors and these are yummo!!! My kids love these. I
substitue soy milk or Atkins shake for the milk... do which is best for you
to prevent dumping. For me, I will make a double batch (some for the kids
and some for me) and use the little disposable bathroom mouthwash cups and
pre-measure out small portions and refrigerate to keep me from eating right
out of the bowl. Not the exact same consistency as you're used to, but,
good and good for you. Here's my two favorites:
2 packages instant SF/FF pudding- banana
2-3 scoops EAS chocolate Whey protein powder
Soy milk, Atkins shake, or skim milk equal to recipe on back of box
Mix with wisk and refrigerate
2 packages instant SF/FF pistachio pudding mix
2-3 scoops EAS Vanilla Whey protein powder
Liquid of your choice as above
Wisk and refrigerate
Doesn't seem to work with mixer.
I would also highly recommend you purchase the book "Before and
After" by Susan Maria Leach... bariatriceating.com. She is a chef
that had RNY. The first half of the book is her story, the last half are
her recipes and I haven't tried any I haven't liked... especially for egg
custard which is very good early post op and goes down well.... if you are
a custard person which I am. Since she had RNY, she is very carefull about
sugar gms and discloses all of the nutrition information.
Have you talked to your doctor about the nausea? It is a common problem
after WLS for days, weeks or sometimes even months. There are meds you can
take, also journal which foods seem to bother you the most and avoid them
for awhile. Good news is, chances are, you'll be able to eat them later
on.
Congratulations on your WLS and your amazing weight loss. I know it's been
rough, just hang in there. Every day gets a little easier.
Best of luck,

I was going to write a couple of recipies that I lived on for weeks post op
and still eat a couple of times a week. However, Dawn already did that so I
will just reafirm that to buy "Before and After" by Susan M.
Leach would be a great investment. I had my surgery Oct. 22, 2007 and used
several of her recipies for my family and friends for the holidays last
year. Good Luck.

Best to make your own and serve really cold. It is cheaper and you can
control how much protein goes into it. I could not handle a lot at the
start but worked my way up. The nausea for me was to much protein so start
small, you will get there.

If protein powder is a problem....you can mix a package of SF Jello Instant
pudding (Comes in Cheesecake, Pistachio, Banana, Chocolate, Vanilla and
Butterschotch) Mix with Riccotta cheese or pureed cottage cheese...Might
use a little soy or reg milk (I use lactaid) And a container of SF cool
whip...It makes a fluffly, yummy, large bowl that your entire family can
enjoy...Or if you are looking for individual serving, you can still take
the SF Pudding mixes and divide into 4 equal part and ssave three for
later...Mix into milk/soy and a scoop of Muscle milk Protein powder....The
choco flavor of muscle milk with choco jello tastes like cake batter to me!
I love it! But I can only handle one scoop of it or I get a belly
ache...Not sure why because Muscle milk is supposed to be lactose free...
Just experiment...You'll come up with your fav recipe...Might even add a
little peanut butter in the mix! OR SF Raspberry or other flavor syrups
(Found in the coffee sections)...Endless possibilities!

I have been eating "Instone High Protein Pudding" that I found at
affordablesupplements.com - The only flavors available is
Milk Chocolate and Vanilla. It's actually very good. There are 3g of
Carbs and 20g of Protein. It's a little expensive, but I've found their
prices are alot cheaper than GNC on this and alot of other items.
