Question:
Lap Band after Gastric Bypass?
I had Gastric Bypass 6 years ago. After I had my son, I have gained some weight back and have not been able to get it off. My weight is slowly creeping back on. I was curious if anyone has had the lap band after their gastric bypass and if it was successful etc. I am also having trouble finding a surgeon that will do the lap band after the g/b. Any tips on finding a surgeon in my area that will do this? I live in Florida and am also willing to self-pay if denied by Aetna. Thanks so much for all your input. — MB5219 (posted on July 5, 2007)

All I know is that it can be/has been done. There was someone who used to
post on the Band forum who had a Band-over-bypass. She called herself a
"hybrid" - hee! I hope you can get more information.

Hi Marybeth, I'm sorry that you are having to look into a revision...
wouldn't it be great if your GB worked perfect and was still working?!
Anyway, I'm not a revision, but before I got my DS (duodenal switch), I
spent a lot of time reading the revision board and all the boards for the
different types of surgeries. See what the post-ops are talking about.
There ARE more choices than just RNY and/or lap band... you can get the
gastric sleeve or the DS. Keep doing your research and I'm sure you'll
figure out which revision is the best for you. There are a lot of VERY
happy revisions on the DS board -- you may want to come and chat with them
too. Good luck.

Dr.Ernest Rehnke WILL Do what you want. And he accepts Aetna also. I
received the Open RNY May 10th 2006 but he suggested to me the fact that
because of my huge amount to lose, that I made get to a point and not lose
any more. At which point, if I'd like he would then go back into me but
Laproscopicaly to place the Banding around my pouch.
His prices have dropped recently also incase Aetna doesn't pay. He is also
associated as a owner with Journey Lite
http://www.journeylite.com/Default/ (But it is self-pay only) , in the New
Tampa area of Hillsborough. But does all of his Lap Banding at the Palms of
Pasadena Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. Here is his Website:

seminar. Good Luck, Mike

I'm not sure where you are located, but if you are in the greater Seattle
area I would recommend you talk to my surgeon Dr. Srikanth. Dr. Srikanth
does all versions of weight loss surgery (medial bypass, proximal bypass,
duodenal switch and lapband) and he does revisions also. He is an
excellent surgeon and will give you the straight scoop on whether or not
the lapband is the right choice for you.
