Question:
does anyone have a good tasting protein drink suggestion, or a recipe?

I am 2.5 weeks post op and I do get my required protein in, but I tend to gag on the taste more often than not. I know there have to be some good ones out there, and I would like to hear about them ASAP! Please help! thanks so much, Deborah    — dessary316 (posted on September 22, 2006)

Well most of my protein selections come from BariatricEating.com or VitaLady.com and so far I have not gotten anything from either place that tasted bad. I also use this new stuff from GNC Called Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein, I love the banana creme and the chocolate/carmel, they are only 110 cal per serving, 20g of protein, and 2 sugars. HTH!

Hey Deborah I'm not sure how much you like coffee but I make this protein latte every morning for breakfast it's delicious. I buy this Any Whey protein from www.bariatriceating.com I mix a scoop of that with one cup of light eighth continent original soy milk or you can use regular milk and add it to about a half a cup to a cup of decaf coffee. You can add flavoring, splenda or I put ice to make an iced latte. I hope you like it enjoy. You can't taste the Any whey protein at all and it can be added to almost anything. Good luck and take care.

Hello, I like the New Whey protein that comes in a test tube like container of about 4 ounces with 25 grams protein. They taste a little like melted jello but something you can down quickly without much aftertaste. Many Blessings, Mattie

Everyone's taste are different, but I think the Champion Whey stack is the best tasting & mixes the best with plain water. You can get samples from Vitalad.com or Beth's botique.com. Hope you find one you like. Take care & congrats on being on the losing side of life. Marilyn, the Bearlady

AchievOne by Skylar-Haley. They are similar to Starbuck's bottled frappucino drinks. I discovered them through www.bariatriceating.com (thanks, Susan Maria!) and loved them. I had them shipped to me for awhile, but that became very inconvenient, so I eventually asked my favorite local grocery store to stock them, which they did, and now they are conveniently available. I drink two per day...sometimes three if I'm having a particularly busy day and need a little extra something. Try them...you'll love 'em!

Hi Deborah, Congratulations on your weight loss so far, welcome to the Loser's Bench!. I recently found Hank's Protein powder. The chocolate tastes like a Wendy's Frosty. Yumm-o You can get 2 free samples to try first. I couldn't handle the smell or grittiness of others I've tried. Good luck. Cindy in Texas www.healthchannelfitness.com

Try the Profect by www.Protica.com, they advertise on the obesity help site all the time.l It is only 2.7 ozs and you get 25 grams of protein and only 100 calories. When I heard about it I figured that I could stomach 2.7 ozs of anything t o get in the protein, but surprisingly it wasn't really bad and it doesn't have a milky aftertaste or a soapy on and it was easy to carry with me and I could drink it room temp or cold and I could guarantee that I was getting in my protein. Remember that your body doesn't absorb but about 20 to 25 grams of protein every hour, so you can't just put them in one hour because it won't count. When I was just a few weeks out, nobody told me this and my hubby was putting my protein through a feeding tube and we were mixing it so that I would get 60 to 80 grams in one shot so that I didn't have to go through it all day. They will send you a sample kit for a decent price and you can decide which ones that you want to drink. The guy I deal with over there is Jim and I get it auto shipped and you can change the auto ship dates anytime you want but you still get the good price. They are the easiest that I have come across. Hope this helps. They even have new flavors.

Hi Deborah. It looks like you've gotten some good feedback. It's so helpful, isn't it? A friend gave me some Perfect Low Carb Isopure and I love it! You can purchase it through GNC. I'm a chocolate fan, so that's about all I'm doing right now and so far, so good. (I'm almost 6 weeks out). I have sliced some bananas and put them in the freezer, and once I got the ok to have banana I started adding them - just one slice in a 4 oz drink does pretty well. I also purchased a 'Magic Bullet' (a small blender that allows me to mix and go using the same cup). Again - LOVE it! Oh - and I just started using soy milk in my drink and that has thickened it up a bit as well. I'm not getting too many calories in, so it's fine to have the additional. Plus the lactose intolerance hit pretty fast for me, so milk isn't an option :-( I also want to encourage you to visit www.vitalady.com. I know someone else mentioned it, but I want to stress again what a great service it is. You can go on and choose from a bunch of different samples. She also has the sugar free syrups (which I have purchased in sample size but have not yet tried). Another source for some interesting ideas and drink recipes is a book by Susan Maria Leach called 'Before & After'. It's an easy read and has lots of recipes in the back. Her website is www.bariatriceating.com. Hope this helps, and best to you. And PS - great job on the weight loss. Doesn't it feel great to know that it's gone FOREVER??!!

I am now 6 weeks out, and had exactly the same problem with protein shakes. One thing that I did that got me through was using suger free drink mixes (single serving ones) - mix 16 ounces of one of those with 8 oz. of Isopure protein (2 grams of protein per ounce). I hated the taste, so this seemed to dilute it enough to drink, and bonus - it helped me get in my liquid requirement everyday as well!! Obviously, if you don't mind the taste of Isopure, you can do more of that and less of the sugar free drink, but that is up to your taste buds. Hope that helps!!
