is there a surgoen noe preforming the gastric sleeve and the gastric bypass in ottawa. id refferals are made at the wheight management clinic i heard they encourage you to try the optifast program at acost of 3000 dollars does anyone know about this.    — karcurious (posted on January 30, 2010)

If you mean Ottawa, Ont. Canada, yes they are doing the RNY gastric bypass at the Civic. They do make you go thru the clinic but I don't know about the Opticrap... I have had mine done in Utica, NY paid by OHIP, they only do that for BMI over 50 now.

There are two surgeons at the Ottawa Civic Hospital who perform the RNY gastric bypass (I am not sure if they perform the VSG - vertical sleeve). When you are referred to the Weight Management Clinic for an assessment to see if surgery is the best option for you they tell you about their Optifast program and ask if it would be something you would be interested in. The 3 month Optifast program is $3000. If surgery is suitable for your situation they require you to do 2 weeks of Optifast before your surgery (at a cost of $300) to shrink your liver and better prepare your body for the surgery.
