Fluids go through the stomach quickly, and avoid the digestion process.

Fluids......Not solid.....Take a cup of water and pour it on the floor and
see how far it flows then take a cup of pudding and do the same.
I'm going on 4 years post op Roux-en-Y that now a days would be reversed,
but kind of enjoy that I CANNOT over eat. 6 ounces is it. Slow, moist, and
very little bread if any. Take your time you'll find your limits.

Because the opening made for you food to pass through is too small for food
to go through quickly, but liquid will pour right through. Thets why docs
warn you about high calorie liquids and softer foods.

Hello Melinda. I was just at my surgeon's office for a one year check-up
(RNY), and asked the PA exactly that question. She said that it IS
possible to stretch your pouch if you GULP the liquids in large amounts.
It is more important, she said, to sip small amounts all day long and to
always have a bottle of water with you. I drink a lot of decaf tea and I
am afraid I stretched my pouch from drinking too much too fast and the fact
that the tea is hot/warm may contribute to the stretching. I am now
"going back to the beginning" to keep myself on track - sip sip
sip. Good luck to you! Patty.
