how close are you to your goal?? you have done so good so far. Do you have
a weight gain when eating the way you are eating?? I know it is not easy
for us to change our eating habits, but we have been given a
"tool" to use.
I have used Isopure from GNC to get extra protein in. its a chocolate
powder you mix with some splenda and ice. makes a nice shake.
I use my fruit as "snacks". they taste so sweet and freshen up
my mouth. type and let me know how close you are to your goal. shalmar

My dr. and nut tells me I have to eat 2oz of a protein and 2oz of a fruit
or veg. at most meals. This is awesome for me because I love fruit. Talk
to your nut before making any changes.

I would also suggest discussing this with your nutritionist, you could give
you more concrete guides on how much of what you can eat during the course
of the day. Eating only veggies and fruit obviously isn't healthy, either,
but as long as you're getting enough protein and not overeating she/he may
be able to allow you to eat more. Good luck!

Unless i am drinking protein shakes, i always have a little bit of
vegetables with my protein portion. It may be a couple of greenbeans, a T
of kale, etc. But I always make sure that I concentrate on my solid
protein first and just nibble at the rest. You may be surprised at how
satisfied you are with a bite or two of veggies. If you have someone to
share a fruit with, you may take a slice of apple or banana. A smidge
really goes a long way. Talk to your nutritionist; I am certain you'll get
the best advise for you. BTW, congratulations!

My brain works like yours. I was never much of a meat or fish eater,
anyway. Blech. I like steak now and then, but mostly I'd rather have stir
fry or any pile of veggies. Fruit makes me gain wt if I eat that as much
as I want, so it's very limited. Iet my protein via supplements, or as I
say, My meat is chocolate. Since I do 6 shakes, 30g each, I get 180g in
protein, plus if it's one of the rare steak days, that's a bonus. I'm 13
yrs out and no, you don't need to do 180g in protein. I have a very distal
RNY and must do 120g or more, but I use the others for appetite, volume and
craving control. Besides, you can eat a LOT of veggies if there is no
controller going, you know?

I agree with all of the above PLUS want to just suggest drinking a Whey
protein shake FIRST, then vegies, then fruit....At least you're not into
sugar! And, if you're at goal and happy with your weight and not
gaining....sounds like your body has adjusted just fine!

Hi,
I too was a vegetarian before surgery. I started high protein right before.
Tghe doctor said eat as many fruits and veggies that you want just dringk a
couple of shakes a day or eat 4 bites of meat before any fruits and veggie.
Watch the potatoes, rice and pasta and 50/ 60 grams of protein is enough.
Be careful not to go on the adkins diet. That is awful for your Kidney's.
Take your vitamins and B12. You will be just fine. I get gout if I eat
anymore protein then 50 grams a day.
