Question:
Amount of food 5 months out
I am 5 months post-op & can eat 6 ozs. of food, per meal, 3 times a day. Does this seem like to much at this stage? Anyone else able to eat this amount? Anyway to find out if I just have an over stretchy pouch? & should I be concerned for the future, & over eating? I've lost 63 lbs to date. Thank-you! — LaurieP (posted on September 5, 2007)

I am having lapband surgery sometime in October hopefully. I just went to
my Dietician appt yesterday and she told me that at about 8 to 12 months
out, I should be comfortable eating a lean cuisine at supper time and that
would be plenty at that time. Dont know if it is much help to you but
basically giving you an idea food wise.

I had RNY on 2/15/07. I am just over 6 months out. I eat around 4-6 oz. per
meal depending. Some days I am a good eater, some days, not so much. I
think you are fine. If you are worried, go see your doc. But for an average
standpoint, I think you are fine. Just my opinion of course. Congrats on
the weight loss!!

I'm also 5 months post-op and I was concerned about the same thing. I had
surgery on 3/30/07 and to date I've lost 80 pounds. I can eat about 4-6 oz
of food a day also. I eat little meals at a time. Boiled egg for
breakfast, small salad with tune or shrimp for lunch, 2 isopure protein
drinks a day, slice of cheese for a snack and a small piece of meat for
dinner. I try to say away from carbs as much as possible. It's good to
hear that we are not over doing it. Keep up the good work:)

No matter what anyone says, you are right on target for you. You have lost
a trmendous amount of weight. I am 1 month post op and depending upon what
I eat, I can already eat up to 6 oz. If it is soup or liquidy yogurt etc. I
asked the surgeon and he said I am doing just fine. Just make sure you get
your protein and b12 and calcium in. good luck

I think you are doing great! I am 90 days out and have lost 28 lbs.
Sounds like you are right on track. Talk to your doctor is you have
questions.

It sounds like a lot to me. But we're on 1-2 oz of food, 5-6 times per day
until goal wt. You didn't say what you are eatingh or how long it takes
you to eat 6 oz of food.

This is Laurie again. I eat about 6 ozs. of mostly protein, with very
little veggies, or fruit. I can eat this amount 3 times ( meals) a day, as
suggested by my doc, and I take almost a half hour to eat. I drink 70 ozs
or more water a day also. Any remarks on the later part of the original
question. Thanks alot in advance, Laurie

I don't think you should be concerned about the future & over
eating.... Me & my husband both had surgery and I could not eat
anything for months (example, I could only eat 3 chicken nuggets at 8
months out), and he came out eating normally. We both lost the exact same
way And got past our goal. I am 4 years PO and he is 2 years PO--neither
of us have gained (except with my pregnancies). I think in the long run it
will depend on what you put in your body--not how much. (I have noticed
that when I am pregnant I only gain if I allow myself to eat junk &
sugar--which I can't seem to avoid) If you keep good eating habits you
should be fine. GOOD LUCK, and CONGRATULATIONS on the 63 lbs gone!!

I'm 6 years out and don' eat 6 ounces at a time per meal. I limit myself to
3-5 ounces per meal depending on the food. If you're getting in 6 ounces of
soup- that's fine -it's liquid. If it's 6 ounces of steak or other dense
meal it could be too much. What does your doctor want you on for portions
and meal sizes? At 5 months out I was between 1/4 and 1/2 cup of food per
meal. My doc has us work up to 1/2 cup by 6 months out. We increase till
we're at one cup by one year out. I was told to stick to one cup to one and
a quarter cup of food per meal after one year out. I still use that
guideline 6 years later. I limit my meals to the ounces and amounts my doc
said and I don't worry about stretching my pouch. Find out from your doc
how many ounces your new pouch is and use that for a guideline. Your doc or
nut can tell you exactly what you should be eating at this point.
