Well not quite 71, but I had a 59. I am now down to 47 and working my way down. The best advice that I can give you, is move after surgery. Keep moving, less chance of clots and a faster recovery. I know it will be hard, but I have had a ton of surgeries in my past and have always recovered well because I refuse to act like I was overweight, and made myself do the things I was asked to do. So basically, no excuses. Good luck, I wish you the best. Diane

Me. I had about the same or a little higher. I did absolutely awesome. It is imperative to get up and move as soon as you can after surgery. It was easy for me, as I got tired of being in bed, and because I got up and walked/moved around, it made the gas disappear faster. Plus, you will have an easier recovery if you get up and move move move...take as many walks as you can up and down the halls of the hospital.

And don't stop moving when you get out of the hospital. I know you wanted to hear from others with a higher BMI; however, I just wanted to offer words of encouragment and congratulate you on your decision to have the surgery. You will be glad you did.

Mine was like 68.5. I was way high and did absolutely super with my surgery. No problems at all. Walking was the key to a fast recovery in the hospital. Good luck!

Actually, my BMI was 74 or 75 when I had my surgery. I started out at 460 pounds and now weigh 196. I am 7 years out from surgery. Congratulations on making such an important step to improve your health!

Hi, I can understand the fear you are feeling. I have heart problems, 2 stents, 2 heart attacks, tripple bypass, insulin dependent, and arthritis. I had to get clearance from my Cardio Doc. before ins. would approve my claim. I think if your doc. felt you were at that great of a risk, he would no way operate. Please write to me after your surgery and let me know your progress. Take care my friend. Jean

21 months ago my BMI was 84.8 On August 4, 2006 I had gastric bypass RNY surgery. I have cut my highest weight of 420 in half - now 210. When I reach 199 I will no longer fall in the morbidly obese catagory - just obese. My surgery went very well - no complications. The weight loss journey has had its ups and downs physically, emotionally etc. but over all it has been worth is - else I would have been 6 feet under by now - that's how bad things were. I trust that all went well for you on Thursday and that you are at home now. if at all possible find a support group - live or online or both. Lorraine 'n HONEY (Service Dog)
