Question:
Is it too soon?
I am four weeks post-op and I feel like I could eat anything on the regular lowfat diet. Should I wait until my post op appontiment. — JillmHanson (posted on March 28, 2006)

Why wait? Well, from my experience... It was Christmas of 1998 and I was 1
month post op. At a cabin in the mountains, I tried a little "regular
food". It was on the list. Well, I heaved so hard, I blew my surgical
wound site and got a hernia. (Still have it!) I also threw out my shoulder
and had the dry heaves for so long, they had to take me to the ER and
sedate me! If I had checked with my doc first, I would have found out that
my reduced stomach area was still highly tender and not up to food yet. It
took another month of recuperating to allow me to start the pureed diet!

Hello, My brother had the surgery about a year ago and it is very important
that you follow the doctor's orders. Take care Frederica

My doctor advised not to eat regular for the first 6 weeks. Your new
stomach is still healing and even though you feel like you could eat, you
don't want to disrupt the staple line. Also, if you do throw up it could
rupture the staples. Wait until your post op appointment and you get the
okay from your doctor.
