I eat protein for my snacking: I like Boars Head Maple Honey baked ham
sliced very thin. It is fat free and very little sugar unlike the name
suggests. I snack on meats, cheese, nuts for my snacks to help get all the
protein in.

JoAnn, first, I need to tell you how much your posts brighten my days - I
look forward to reading what you write every day! About your full pouch -
are you eating 5-6 small meals every day? Shellfish like shrimp go down
pretty easily for me and have a lot of protein. I know you like to cook so
probably have some good ways to cook them up. I saute mine in a little
olive oil and garlic and red pepper flakes - then I add some white wine. It
takes less than 5 minutes. It's really good over angel hair pasta (which I
don't eat anymore) or just by itself. I also sometimes defrost a few prawns
and eat them with cocktail sauce - another good protein meal. Beef jerky is
also a great source of protein. I also make lasagne without noodles - I cut
it into small pieces and put it in gladware in the freezer. That way I get
about 1/2 cup servings and 30 gm of protein. Good luck!

You didn't say how far out you are. If you use protein supplement, then
the being forced to eat protein weight is off your shoulders. If you're not
at your finish wt, then you would WANT the volume to be limited, and you
really don't WANT to graze past it. You can graze every pound right back
on. I think you're wise to be figuring this out NOW, rather than later.
Most of us use protein supplement to meet the basic protein needs (though
some of us long termers use it for other things). I go days without eating
protein from food sources. But I'm totally covered & I don't have to
be so very food focused.

1 protein shake a day will add 30 grams of protein to your diet. I highly
suggest you find a good protein drink or even a protein powder that you can
mix into food. That way you don't have to worry about getting in enough
from food. Eventually you will be able to eat more and get in more
protein, but keep in mind that we do not absorb all the protein that we
eat(how much we absorb is not known), so those 30 grams of protein that you
are eating is not 30 grams that you are absorbing.

I'm surprised how little I can eat sometimes, still at 8 1/2 months
post-op. I'm not complaining, i actually love it, it's one more thing I
don't have to worry about: overeating! As for your protein concern, I agree
with the previous posts about more supplements and frequency of meals. I
eat 3 small meals (usually never more than 2-3oz, I can't fit anymore than
that) and use 2 or 3 supplements a day (some of which are milk) Doing that
gets me about 70grams a day, which is on target for my surgeon's
recommendations. So maybe you can try that! goodluck to you, hope you can
find a way to get in more protein- i think you'll find you'll lose more
weight faster!

I'm with you on that. I fill up after a few bites, which is why i had
surgery, so I would fill up on a few bites. I have been using fit day.com
to track cals and protein, found I was taking in <800 cals a day. I lose
better if Im at more like 900 cals. so I talked to my doc about my lack of
protein, he said if I can't finish my food, let it settle a little and come
back to it later. It worked for me. I also take my protein shakes, 4oz
yogurt, 3 or 4 strawberries or 1/2 a banana, or any other frozen fruit or
berries I have, (strawberries and mango combo Yummy) add a scoop of vanilla
designer whey & a little milk , blend it, and sip it til it is gone.
Another great one, I took strawberry lite& fit yogurt, a few frozen
strawberries and chocolate designer whey & a splash of milk, and
blended, tastes like cocolate covered strawberry and a good deal of my
daily protein requirement.
