Question:
How can I get my meds in?
I have some meds that I still need to take. My Dr. said that I could crush them...Well, I've tried and tried to add to pudding and applesauce. I gag and just want to throw up! Only three days out....I hope this nausea will disappear..any little amount of food or drink...yuck! Everything tastes awful! — nanabanana11 (posted on March 17, 2011)

I have one med that I have to crush and I agree, no matter how I take it
the bitterness is awful. I believe the one I take comes in liquid form and
I might check into with my Primary care doctor when I see him next week. I
put mine in about an ounce of water, plug my nose and down it. Wish it was
more pleasant.

Not sure which surgery u had but I had the Duodenal Switch 4 days ago and I
have been braking my pills in half and just swallowing them. With out any
problem. They gave me crushed meds at the hospital but I would gag so
nasty! Good luck!

Hi, I know exactly what your going through, I am a month and half post
op....I went through a stage in which I could not take, smell, taste
anything without gagging, driheaving, and throwing up...so I feel for
you.....IT WILL GO AWAY just give it time....ok now on to the meds.....NO
MATTER HOW BAD THINGS TASTE YOU HAVE TO, YOU MUST TAKE IN YOUR VITAMINS AND
MEDS....your body NEEDS THEM now MORE THAN BEFORE....your liquid CALCIUM
CITRATE, (1 tbsp) in the morning before you sip your water or your gatoraid
G2, your MULTIVITAMINS should be gummies instead of the regular chewables
the gummies are wayyy easier for you right now(take 2 and chew them well
before you swallow them), B12 SUBLINGUAL(LIQUID DROPS FOR UNDER THE
TOUNGUE) PEANUT BUTTER WILL BE YOUR BEST FRIEND...keep a jar on your night
stand (put a popscicle stick in the jar) it will come in handy...lol
REMEMBER!!!!! YOU CAN NOT TAKE THEIS VITAMINS TOGETHER....YOU NEED TO WAIT
AN HOUR IN BETWEEN EACH OF THEM(Take one of them then wait an hour then
take the other, then wait another hour and then take the last one) at night
before you go down for the night take your second dose of CALCIUM CITRATE(1
tbsp) the capsule you have to take with yogurt...does unfortunately taste
gross..try mixing it in sugar free banana jello pudding(stop and shop sells
all different flavors and they are sugar free) it says it right in front of
the box...use fat free milk to make....stop & shop also sells the sugar
free popscicles your going to need these....also Try to get your protein
in. as much as you can...hang in there...its going to be hell but you can
do it...remember mind over matter....If you cant drink water(I could not
drink water even if they paid me), it tasted absolutely discusting to
be...so I CRUSHED ICE IN THE BLENDER AND GOT MY INTAKE IN...IT WORKS...you
are in a volital stage right now and you can dehidrate very quickly,THAT IS
NOT GOOD AT ALL....YOU CAN END UP IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM......if you cant
drink anything unless its ice cold, then freeze it.....and put it in the
blender take it in like that......sip or eat the crushed ice it will help
out sooo much.....idont hesitate to call your surgeon if you dont feel
well....f you want to text me or email me plz feel

Before I was able to swallow a capsule, I used a pill crusher to turn my
meds into a very find powder and added them to my protein shake. Didn't
notice a medicine taste at all.

There's a reason why your Dr wants you to crush your pills, you had major
surgery and they do not want you to perforate your pouch or any other parts
of the surgery. I bought a Pilon - Mortar and Pestle, and I crushed those
damn vitamins daily and I cried daily but I did it the same. I had to do
this for 4 months, man when that forth month came along I was doing the
Italian jig!
I feel so bad for all you newbies out there, it is hell but it does get
better, it took me close to 15 months to feel sort of normal. I still do
not eat a lot of foods, but I am so happy I could cry.
Hang in there my weight loss brothers and sisters, follow the advice of
your Doctors and things will improve.
BTW, my Dr. told me not to take calcium citrate with iron, I must wait two
hours.
