I'm a nurse. My surgery date is 3/23/10 and I have been told that because
of the lifting and moving of patients/equipment/etc. that I probably won't
be released for 6 weeks post-op. ;( Mostly due to my employer, who will not
let me come back to work with activity restrictions.

I think it's going to depend on how much weight you carry when you're
delivering meals....I was told not to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds
for at least 6 weeks, preferably 3 months. But I went back to work at 11
days post op (I only missed 8 days of work)...however, I had a sedentary,
desk-type job.

I'm a hair stylist, so we both know what it's like to be on our feet all
day. I went back to work after 3 weeks. You will be extremely tired in the
beginning. Probably more so since your job is a bit more demanding. I would
ask to be scheduled for shorter shifts to start, and gradually tack on
another hour every week. I started at 6 hour shifts and am up to 9 hours
now. I'm 2 months post op. Good luck and don't overdue it!

I was in the hospital for three days ,the day after I was released I walked
around in the mall .Everyone is different! You may need to take your pain
med,I only took one pill the night I got home. Can you sit down on your job
if you need to?I did have to take a couple of like ten minute breaks and we
was out all day with family.Just make sure you take your food to work with
you. Also I was told not to lift over ten pounds and not to drive the first
week.So there are so many different things to take into consideration. You
just do not want to over do it and hurt yourself.
