Question:
How do I even know if this is working?
Hi, I had my lap band surgery on 3/25/09 at which time i was weighing in at 247lbs, soon after my surgery I was able to eat small portions of whatever i wanted.after 3 months i was down only 10lbs =( On 6/29/09 I had my 3rd fill and was at 6cc. that day i was practically unable to eat anything. I would get stuck on a piece of avacado. 1 week later food was going down better and not coming up as often. i was down 10lbs more by 7/9/09 but by then I realized I could eat a little more than i should. so my doc gave me .25cc more. for a day or two it was rough but now im back to eating a little more and up 3lbs. UGHHH what do i do now? go back for more? or should I wait. im starting to get more and more frustrated b/c i feel like i should be down at least 35lbs by now!! any one with any suggestions??? — Denise9583 (posted on July 14, 2009)

i would probably avoid avocado. it's really high in fat. but i thought
that after you have a lap band fill you are supposed to eat liquids for a
day, then mushies and then regular food? did your doctor give you a plan
to follow? is there a nutritionist that you are in contact with?
i've heard that it takes several fills to have the correct amount of
restriction. good luck!

You sound a lot like me. I had my surgery in February and since then I've
only lost 24 lbs. Honestly, I have not been following my doctor's strick
diet plan. When I follow the plan I loose. I have to remind myself that
the band is only a tool. I am learning that more and more. I have to
remind myself that the band is there and remember what I went through to
get it. Sometimes I continue to eat when I have that feeling of fullness.
I've never gotten sick or thrown up. I have not been exercising either.
When I attend spport group meeting I see people we are doing so well and
losing lots of weight. Be honest with yourself and follow the doctor's
rules. I am tying so hard to stay on track. If you continue to get tight
and loosen up, maybe you have a leak. Good Luck.

Vonna is right on target. WLS is only a tool, it's not the magic wand. As
soon as you realize this you will do better. Good luck and stick to your
doctor's plan. I've lost 136 pounds and, believe me, it's worth it.
