Hey.. relax.. it will come back. Anytime that you have surgery you will tend to lose hair (due to anesthesia). You can help with the nutrient replenishment by taking the super B complex that the surgeons recommend.. (Bariatric Advantage makes a chewable variety). You can also take a B vitamin called Biotin. They come in capsule, I open the capsules and mix it in my protein drink. You can't taste and it does make a difference. It will help your skin and nails too... relax...

It lasts about three months total...The beginning of those 3 months is quite frightening...but it starts to slow down and just when you think you're going to lose all your hair, you notice growth in your hair lines along your face and you KNOW it's almost over! You notice it more than anyone else because your hair is just everywhere...In your bra, down the back or your pants...in your food...all over ther floor...LOL It stops! Mine came back so shiny and so silky and curly! WOW! I had wavy wiry hair pre op...so it's quite a nice change! Make sure you are taking your vitamins and my Nut said Biotin as well...but that didn't stop the hair loss for me...But it did make my hair/nail really nice and I still take a biotin supplement all these years post op.

it will stop but not for months. It feels like you are losing all your hair, but eat lots of protien and it slows it down some. The Boitin helps as well.

I stess about that too cuz my hair is already very fine and thin. I feel I don't have any to spare. Hypothyroidism and of course genes didn't deal me a good head of hair. I still know I gotta get rid of this weight even if I have to wear a wig. LOL

I thnk wearing wigs are not a bad idea. One of my girlfriends who had the bypass had to do that. Her hair was falling out fast..(she had some complications right after surgery not related to the bypass...but it affected her nutrition) Anyway..she got several different styles and different colors and you never knew what she was going to look like when she came into work. HOWEVER..another thing that the different wigs did was transfer everyones focus away from how much weight she was losing to her hair. And I know I have heard so many times from others who have had WLS that they get so tired of answering "how much you lost now" I think at first it is cool, but after you get into the groove, I can see how that would be frustrating...vfeeling liek everyone is watching you..just my opinion. (Also, you are remaking yourself..coming out of your shell if you were not an extrovert to begine with...use this as an excuse to experiment with how different style will look on your new, glowind slender face!!!)

I talked to my doctor about this when we talked about Biotin. Before saying what he told me, make sure you talk to your own doctor before doing this. My doctor told me to double up on Biotin and double up on Zinc. I have not had the surgery yet, but my hair is super thin already and he advise me this. I already have two wigs sitting here ready for my hair falling days in the future. So again, before you or anyone does this, please discuss this with your doctor. This is only what mine told me. http://www.youtube.com/user/pjavellana1 PJ

I had the same problem loosing my hair. Because my hair is sooo thick I didn't notice that my hair was thinning until like my 6month. I will be a year post of on the 11th of March. In Dec. I had to get hair sewed in because it got really bad. I take Biotin and Zinc. I see the difference in my nails but because my own hair is braided underneath I dont know if it has grown out.

Try increasing your protein intake (as always check with your surgeon first). I had understood that this happens because of a protein deficiency.

Same here. I had my surgery about a week or so after yours. I was told to make darn sure I'm getting enough protein and to try the Biotin Supplements. You can also try Nioxin Shampoo. I just got mine a few days ago so I can't tell you for sure but others say it works by assisting the new hair growth.

I agree with Tina...sufficient protein and Biotin are important. I also use the Nioxin line of products, I started well before surgery, because I had a hair loss problem a while back. They have shampoo, conditioner,(scalp therapy),and a hair growth stimulator. There's one for men and another for women. I use the one for men because I think it's more potent. It definitely helped. FYI, my husband also uses the products now, and it has helped significantly with his receding hair line. I hope this information helps

I have very fine thin hair, and yes my hair started to fall out 3 months after surgery, not entirely, but it got really thinned out. I am 7 months out, and my hair is growing back, the new growth is about 2 inches long. It wasn't too bad, and it was worth it!
