Don't be concerned with feeling sick. Right now the priority is to care
for the staple line. Treat is with care for at least 3 months. Then I
wouldn't even push a whole bowl of anything. At a year out I can barely
get in 3/4 a cup of food volume. If you get a leak you will get a nasty
infection. Good luck, and congrats on having your WLS!

Oatmeal is not normally on the list of recommended things early out. Cream
of wheat was on my doctors list, but he said no oatmeal until 5 months out,
as it was harder to digest the oatmeal pieces. Even at 2 1/2 years out, I
can only tolerate the 1 minute variety of Quick Oats, the regular oatmeal
is still hard to digest.Small portions at your stage too--about 2 ounces.
A bowl is more likely 8+ ounces. DAVE

You should be following the guidelines given to you by the nutritionist
prior to surgery. I would suggest reviewing that info. If your unsure ask
them for more info.

Rather than just eating until you feel full, I recommend you measure out
how much you should eat and stick with that. If you only eat until you push
your limit each time, that's a way to stretch the pouch. This is how I did
it (measuring out food at each meal--and I hit my goal (100 lbs) in 9
months.

I haven't had the surgery yet...I hope to have the lap rny in February.
But, I've been living the life I will need to live after my surgery now,
just not in the reduced portions. However, I have been to the nurtitional
class, and they brought out little one-ounce containers (like the size they
bring your meds in while you're in the hospital), and they showed us that
THIS would be all we'd be drinking every couple of hours for the first 2
weeks. Then, we would get to fill those same size cups with pureed protien
and eat that for about 3-4 more weeks. Then, we would graduate to a
2-ounce cup several times per day for 3 or 4 weeks, and then to a 3-ounce
cup, and finally to a total of about 4 ounces by the time we're 4-5 months
out. It sounds to me like you're eating and drinking way too much for 1
week post op.

guess I am confussed. One week out? It was all I could do to eat 2 oz of
anything at a time, and never could get more than two protein shakes down.
Wow that does sound like a lot of food?

Hi Hope. I think you had better call your dietian. At 1 week out I was just
starting the preed food stage and could barely get 1 oz of food in. I
measure my food all the time! I am six months out and still only eat 2
ounces. Soup especially creamed is out. No liquids and solids together. And
creamed is white flour. Only 100% wheat flour is recommended on stage 3
thru my dr's office. I hope you do well. Take a step back. You want to be
successful as you went thru the surgery, don't let your head or eyes get
the better of you. Take this time with no appetite..and you shouldn't have
a real hunger, to relearn to eat healthily. Please don't risk popping out
your staples. You could get VERY sick from that. I will pray for you! Hugs
n Merry Christmas!! Kim
