Question:
EATING WHEN BAND IS TIGHT

Hi... Yesterday I had a fill under x-ray with barium due to my slow weight loss. I have a large band and before my fill yesterday , I had 7 and the doc. filled me to 8.5. I am really really restricted and do not know what I should be eating. I am not used to being this restricted and today I had soup again for lunch. I know I can not keep eating soup. can anyone give me some ideas of what they eat when there band is this tight.    — willish (posted on June 4, 2008)

Refried beans w/ cheese.......cotage cheese......vienna sasusage.......try some chenky soups but if you just got a fill you might want to stay on protein shakes and liquids such as soups for a few day....but make sure above all you get at least 65 grams of protein in eachj day....that is very necessary.......Pam / Ft Worth Bandster Bites Silverware [email protected]

i agree with above post. after each of my fills, my doc tells me liquids only for 3 days then mushies for 1 day and slowly add back solid foods. i actually had to be unfilled last time, i was too tight. i could only eat a few bites of solid food before it would start coming back up again. good luck... hope this helps

I make my own protein shakes.. my favorite is an Atkins shake, 1 scoop whey protein powder, 3 frozen strawberries, 10 frozen blueberries, my vitamins (liquid or tablets) and a few ice cubes in the blender. Yummy. I like the bullet tubes of whey protein and snack and slim protein puddings. I also go to Smoothie King and get a low carb chocolate/banana smoothie with an extra shot of protein- only 7 carbs. Peanut butter goes down easy, just has a lot of calories and fat. Egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, cottage cheese. I have a lot of restriction now, I am too tight in the morning to eat so I have water and hot coffee and the band will loosen a bit. After a couple of hours, I will have a protein shake. Afternoon I will have a little egg salad or protein pudding and try some cooked veggies... I can't do raw veggies when I'm tight. In the early evening I can usually eat a small amount of whatever I cook for dinner. Be careful of pork, nuts, asparagus and pineapple- their texture seems to always get stuck with me. Fish goes down the best if you like it. Lots of recipes from Susan Maria's book from Bariatric Eating.com for fish and chicken. Also in the same book are recipes for egg custard and protein puddings which are YUMMO! Good luck and be careful.... take tiny bites and chew everything to the point of applesauce before you swallow. If you can't get it to that consistency in your mouth, spit it out. Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC
